In this video you will learn how to find the mean median and the mode of a data set.

Hello to MooMooMath where we upload a new Math video everyday. In this video I would like to talk about basics of statistics and measures of center. The mean, median, and mode.
Here are the steps for calculating the mean
Add of the numbers in the data set
Divide by the total number of items in the data set
If there is a zero it must be included

Lets look at an example Megan babysat 9 times. She earned 15 20 10 12 20 16 and 80. What is her average earned?
15 20 10 12 20 16 and 80 she worked a lot, and 25 and add these together you get 219 and divide by 9
Why 9, because you divide by the total number of items in the data set.
If you count you will see you have 9 items,
219 divided by 9 = 24 dollars
Lets look at another example of the mean
25 24 10 12 19 and we want to find the average.
Add thee together and that equals 90 and divide that by 5
Why 5, because you have 1.2,3,4,5 and when I divide I get 18 so the mean is of these 5 numbers is 18
Now lets move on to another measure of center and that is the median
The median is the numbers in the middle of a number set when the numbers are in order from least to greatest.
Steps for determining the median
Arrange the numbers from least to greatest
Cross off the least number and the greatest number until you are left with just one number in the middle. this is the median
If there are two numbers left in the middle you have to find the mean or average of the two numbers
Lets work an example,
Find the median of 35 5 50 20 and 45
I will first arrange the numbers from least to greatest
Lease to greatest results in 20 35 45 50 and 55
Now I will cross off the greatest and the least number.
Be careful, and because it is easy to miss something.
Start at the greatest.
Cross that off, and the least, do that again, and that leaves us with 45 which is the median
Lets complete one more quick example,
202 104 412 300
First arrange them from least to greatest.
104 202 300 412
I start crossing off the greatest and the least and I'm left with 202 and 300.
I then will take the median of these two numbers.
When I add 202 and 300 I get 502 divided by 2 equals 251.
Why did I use 2, because that is how many numbers are in my data set, and that is 2
The median of this group of numbers is 251
Now lets move to the last section and that is calculating the mode.
The mode is number which occurs most frequently.
There might by one mode, many modes, or none.
Lets look at an example, 16 occurs once, 40 once,28 twice,19 once,36 once, and 6 once so the mode is 28
50 occurs two times,65 occurs twice, and the rest occur once. So with this mode we have more than one we have 50 and 65
Next, 8 occurs three times, 12 two times, and 4 once, so 8 occurs most often so that is our mode.
Finally, in the last set all of the numbers occur once so there is no mode for that data set.
Hope this helped with mean, median, and mode,
