I love your 'only what's necessary' approach to learning the guitar. So what if someone learns a few different versions of the 'standard' chords in their first lesson? The advice to play by ear and/or use a capo until the chords sound right is also much more intuitive than the amount of theory many newbies are expected to learn before they can play real songs.

Plus, way more students would dive deeper into the guitar world if they managed to make some nice sounding music without all the hassle. I remember being mesmerised by the sound of these exact chord shapes and wondering what I could do to replicate that feeling in other ways.
