Geomagnetic storms and solar flares, explained | JUST THE FAQS

From auroras to blackouts, here’s how geomagnetic storms and solar flares impact us here on Earth.

The colorful aurora forms when particles flowing from the sun get caught up in Earth's magnetic field. The particles interact with molecules of atmospheric gases to cause the famed glowing red and green colors of the aurora.

Geomagnetic storms can affect the Earth's infrastructure, possibly disrupting communications, power grids, navigation, radio and satellite operations, NOAA says. Disruptions to technology from a G3 storm generally remain small, but the storm can drive the aurora farther south from its usual position over the polar region, NOAA said.

Here after hearing about the solar storm reaching Earth today

I'm glad someone besides us "Fringe" observers has the guts to call the Carrington Event to the world's attention! Why are our power lines not even underground?

So if you were confused from my understanding a geomagnetic storm is when a solar flare hits the earth (which is blocked by our atmosphere) it messes with and shuts down a lot of technology BUT DOES NOT POSE ANY THREAT TO THE EARTH.

You not going to mention lightning falling like rain?
“CME a giant cloud of particles “
Downplaying the seriousness of a cme, they can be bigger that the actual sun itself .

One day another Carrington event will occur, it's an inevitability. The US grid and many around the world would not be able to handle that type of event and would take many years to get up and running to the same capacity. Faraday cage what you can and learn how to live without power for the rest.

Who frequently asks questions about solar flares? We should probably get on that.

Too bad our magnetic field is weakening rapidly.

Strong sun activities are one causes of geomagnetic storm, and the loss of protection by the earth atmosphere can be another. Human depleted greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, which may cause geomagnetic disruption in the life of human beings.

Title says just the facts proceeds to begin the video with fear-mongering look I clicked on this because I wanted to know the exact makeup and structure of a solar flare not because of how you think the coronal mass or solar flare could upheavals from technological advancements all together just leave that crap out of it if there's no place for it
