Here in Northern VA, the hourly pay average is $48-55 to start and this is for both new grads & experienced. The Dental Hygiene field is in very high demand. There's a shortage nationwide.

I'm surprised Seattle-Bellevue is not in the top 5 highest paying areas because the average salary here is definitely in the $60/hr range as well! $45/hr average salary for WA state seems a little low. Very interesting, maybe this salary spike is due to COVID.

Interesting, lots of generalization of facts for across the country. I live in the Santa Maria - Santa Barbara, Ca and no one I knew in 2022 made that level of salary as a dental hygienist. Alabama is the lowest earning state likely due to state allowing a dentist to "train individuals to be dental hygienists" in the office. This creates a small workforce that is "tied" to the office and limited to transfer their "licensing" outside of the state of Alabama. The salary figures you offer don't report if they are part-time < 32 hrs a week or full-time >32 hrs a week. I have been in Dentistry as an assistant for 30 years and a hygienist for 13 years in California. If I ask you a question I remove my fingers, hands, and tools from your mouth so you can reply.
