Josh was originally not a guitar player, he was a drummer. He learned almost every previous rhcp repertoire to fit in and play live. I don't think Frusciante would do the same with Josh's two records. Josh committed to his job in rhcp consistly for 10 straight years. The amount of respect I have for Josh grew so much over time.

Most guitar players don’t hate Josh, they hate clickbait

I feel so bad for Josh for all the shit he gets just for not being Fruscainte. People forget that John is the one who left the band. The Chili's didn't kick him out or anything, they just needed a replacement guitarist, and Josh did an incredible job for 10 years. Songs like Feasting on the Flowers, Sick Love, Dark Necessities (Obviously), and especially Goodbye Angels. I genuinely think Goodbye Angels is one of their best songs ever.

Josh was an absolute soldier for RCHP, massive team player. The amount of times he's helped Anthony with lyrics live deserves huge respect. Josh kept the band hot and ready so they could bring their A game when John returned.

Josh's solo work on songs like Dark Necessities is full of feeling and tasteful restraint. No one else is John Frusciante, but Josh is clearly a very soulful artist in his own right.

I wish Josh had one more album. I enjoyed what he did with the band. He helped break a sound rut I could the the chilis tuning into. Gave them all a new perspective. Also the Josh era help return them to making a cohesive album and not just a collection of single and other songs. Albums with deep cuts. I appreciate that man.

"I don't need to hate one to love the other. I can love both Klinghoffer and Frusciante and what they've done for one of my favorite bands of all time"

I’ve heard josh say he specifically tried to play things that weren’t in the ‘frusciante realm’ which I can’t imagine how hard that must’ve been. Knowing now how stifled he felt, the fact he still dug deep and found such uniquely beautiful and interesting melodies demonstrates the depth of his soul. Which, again, I can’t imagine ALSO being able to do that while constantly being compared and reminded that he was not his predecessor. He has built a tremendous pedigree and the company he keeps value him like beloved family member. Dot Hacker, Pearl Jam, Gnarls Barkley, Pluralone, Bob Forrest-such tremendous collaborations.

I had the honor of getting to see him play alongside Jane's Addiction, and Smashing Pumpkins when they toured together recently. He was in the area, and heard they were gonna be playing a concert, and he asked if he could come be the guitarist. They agreed, and I gotta say. Hearing Jane's Addiction, and Smashing Pumpkins songs played in the style of his guitar was out of this world. It was a borderline psychedelic experience. It was in a closed arena too, so the sound was like right in your ear. It was one of the best live performances I've ever listened to.

How could *anybody* hate Josh Klinghoffer? He's such a nice guy

I actually saw Josh open for Pearl Jam in Toronto a month ago and I loved it, he’s definitely a killer guitarist and I still think that he did a great job taking over for John

Here's my story time about Josh: I met him outside a coffee shop in Toronto while he was on tour with Pearl Jam. I recognize him and go up to him to say hi, "So you're with Def Leppard now?"

He was super nice about it and laughed it off while I wanted the ground to swallow me up right then and there 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

I always felt the hate towards Josh was unwarranted. I'll admit, when he joined the RHCP, I was fairly upset due to the fact that he basically replaced John Frusciante. After sometime, I grew to appreciate his talents. He was probably the next best thing to John. He really kept the peppers alive, even helping Kiedis w/ lyrics when he forgot the lyrics. The dude was dedicated to the band, probably more so than Frusciante ever was.

The way he was abruptly kicked out of the band was unprofessional, to say the least.

Josh kept the band going. They definitely explored a different sound on both albums. His playing grew on me a lot. I got to hear Aeroplane live because that wouldn’t happen with John.

Ironically, Frusciante and Klingerhoffer working together on the The Empyrean is mind blowing.

He is easily one of the most underrated guitarists ever. I’m glad RHCP fans like him too. Frusciante purists like him too for a reason!

I saw Josh with the chili peppers at Coachella in 2013 and he was unbelievably good. He absolutely rips and you can tell it's effortless for him. Def one of the only people who could've properly fill John's shoes

Josh Klinghoffer is not just one of my favorite guitarists, but one of my favorite musicians ever. he's so versatile and so incredibly talented, I'm glad he's moved on past the chilis, he got so much hate and he was so restricted in the band
