Pimp My Printer - Tronxy x1 Upgrade and Review

After wanting one for quite a long time, my glorious sponcer GearBest send me one to check out. It may not be the best printer out there but modding and playing with it was fun.

Part cooling fan is controlled via g code or in the printers menu. By default it doesn't run. In the slicer you can tell it to run after a certain number of layers. Generally you don't want to have the print fan on during the first layer. It will cause the filament to cool too quickly and shrink/curl away from the bed.

Glue stick is all I've needed to get parts to stick. Spread some on before a print. I get the kind that starts out purple and dries clear. After a while just remove the bed surface and wash off any built up glue under hot water.

My brother and I have one, and we actually didn't see any of the online help before fixing it ourselves, so we fixed the wobble by putting electrical tape on the aluminum where the wheels make contact to function as a spacer and it works pretty well. We also tightened the belts with the included holders and an insane amount of trial and error. It was a fun time! We eventually needed to print a spacer for the Z-axis wheels, but only to hold it together where the manufacturer's plastic had cracked.

We also use hairspray on the print bed to get the prints to stick, which works ok unless you print something tall. We got the print quality to look WAY better than what's shown in the video, and I can send you a screenshot of all my print settings in Repetier if you want. (I know Repetier is awful, but I just use it because it came with the printer, and my brother uses Cura.)

I have the same printer, you need to mod it a bit to fix the wobbling in the bed and the x arm, and add belt tensioner, then with correct parameters it can print really well ! Much better than shown in the video. I think you are either printing crazy fast or having extrusion problems.

They included a profile for my machine in the sd card. If you add painters tape to one side of the z rails (like the metal bars the wheels go up and down on) it can eliminate some of the z wobble. The same goes for the y rails. I've had this printer for a little over a year now and my only problems are that the screen broke (probably because I accidentally plugged in my more powerful laptop power supply and fried it) and the connection over usb sometimes is shotty. Overall I think its a fun printer to play with if your willing to do some modding.

I feel like your adhesion issues are more down to the levelling of your bed, ( you'll be surprised at the difference it can make.) Also to eliminate the stringing I'd play around with the retraction settings, I'm guessing by the price and setup it'll be quite high somewhere between 6-7mm/s you've probably worked all that out by now though ☺️ seems like a great little printer for the money however with some more playing around with slicer settings I bet it could produce some really decent prints .

I have watched many 3D printer videos, and of all the 3D printer videos that I have seen, this one by far had the greatest intro. Oh, and by the way, its actual content was very good as well.

You definitely do not want to put the spool holder on top of it, it will become like a pendulum that will create a lot of vibration.

There's one thing I haven't seen you use and that's the little bits. I think there's even a Minecraft 1.8 mod that allows you to use redstone with them.
