the best part of applying for the job is you don't have to worry if you can or can't swim because it won't make a difference

My uncle worked for 20 years on rigs in the North Sea. His family moved to Scotland so they could be close. He was a big fella and very strong and had a can-do attitude. Rest in peace uncle Mike.

Did 9 months in the kitchen on a rig in the gulf. Was terrifying at first. But I made over 100k for 9 months worth of work. 9/10 would recommend. It's for sure not a job/career for those with families or kids.

12likes, thanks everyone. I was just a kid with zero prospects. Never thought it'd open doors for others 13 years later. It's good money again of you've got no family or kids.

My advice. Don't grow up thinking you have to do work you see in society. There are a plethora of things you can do to live and resume YOUR preferred lifestyle.

Had a friend who worked there for a couple years.
Said "it was the most beautiful terrifying thing he has ever seen"

My brother left school in Alberta during an oil boom. Worked all over the west and got loads of experience. Worked his way up the ladder the hard way. He was very young. Then got a job out in the sea 🌊 by Africa. 30 days on and 30 days out. Then was offered almost any job he ever wanted and ended up working all over the world. Made enormous amounts of money but worked blood sweat & tears to get it. I have so much respect and complete admiration and love for him. Best brother ever. 💙

"Ever wondered why oil rig workers earn so much?"

Not really; if anybody deserves that sort of money it's those guys.

Worked a year and a half in oil. Survived a off shore explosion. Then another 6 months later on land. After that I took God's message to heart that this was not my place.

When I saw how big those waves were and that thing moving in the ocean I didn't need to know any other reason. Kudos to those guys as I watch from my phone

I’ve been working on the rigs for 25 years on and off in different locations from the UK North Sea to Australia and all I can say was the time off was great 😆

My brother was a ship’s medical officer on one of the largest rigs out there, as most don’t actually have medical staff, he said it’s one of the most well-paying but terrifying jobs you can do.

I worked as a tech engineer on a North Sea rig once, back in the early 00’s. I didn’t even work outside (and I rarely went outside), it was fucking terrifying 24/7. Six months felt like three years. I have so much respect for those folks. The money was fantastic but I’d never do it again. They deserve every penny.

I turned 21 on an offshore oil rig in 1978. I worked out there for about a decade first as a roughneck on a drilling crew and later as a welder.
This video brought back a mix of memories and emotions for sure.

My dad worked as a diver on the oil platforms on the cook inlet during the late 60’s. The stories he tells are those that should be in a book. Those were the days of a lot of “firsts” in the industry.

Ever seen a full grown man fall face first into the dirt on perfectly still, flat and undisturbed ground? Try staying in one of those oil rig for like a month or two.

What amaze me the most is how the scientist and engineer involved could find an oil pocket hundreds of meter below sea level.

Down here in Louisiana , if a young single man can put 6 or so years working on a rig offshore, it gives him a great start financially in life
