I served for twelve years in the Corps. I was an 0331 in Viet Nam and finished up as a SSgt (8411) when I got out. Whenever someone thanks me for my service, I always reply, "It was an honor." because for me, it was. I know many veterans who are filled with regret that they didn't serve their twenty years and retire. I am filled with pride at the single greatest accomplishment of my life, having earned the title.

My uncle Jack signed up when he was 17 & served his four years. He died at 90. We were six years apart in age, he was the best uncle a girl could ever have. I will always remember you uncle Jack, and will love you the best of everyone. You were the kindest and most caring. Semper Fi! Babsey

Had a friend in his 90’s when he passed away, wasn’t famous but he served as a Marine in the Pacific campaigns of WW2 and then the Korean War. He earned 7 Purple Hearts and at one time was Colonel Chesty Puller’s radioman in Korea.

R. Lee Ermey and George C. Scott and Lee Marvin, best of the actors in the bunch, especially when they played Marines on the big silver screen!! Loved this post!

Thank you for your service! My grandfather who passed away Friday at the age of 94 was a WWII USMC Veteran. He served on Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima with the 4th Marines. He was my hero.

Served 24 years as a Navy Corpsman, 2 tours with the Marines - 8404/FMF. The Marines treated me better than my own Navy. Ooorah!

Did my "4 with the Corps" tour from 1985-89 and many of the people on the list did know but some surprised me because you would not think they were once part of our ranks. Then again once your family you never really leave. To all my Marine brothers out there SEMPER FI and have a great rest of the year 2021.

My personal favorite is Art Buchwald. He tells the story of himself as an ordinance man. He dropped a live bomb in a hangar, but because he failed to arm it properly, it didn't detonate. His commanding officer told him he wasn't sure whether he should court martial him for his stupidity of dropping the bomb or commending him for his incompetence at improperly arming it.

Lee Marvin is buried at Arlington Cemetery; aside from the field of battle, the only proper resting place for a US Marine.
