Garden Office Build Timelapse - Start to Finish

Here is what started out as something small to replace the shed, but ended up being a garden office with electricity and heating. The build took 3 months of evenings and weekends.

I really appreciate your comments. Many have expressed their concern about moisture issues. Please be aware that I already know about these and should I do another build in future, I will make sure to address these. This video was never intended as a how-to guide and I am not overly concerned about the build lasting many years as it was more of a project to pass time and learn a skill.

I am not a skilled carpenter or builder so this video should not be used as a one-stop guide. Everything I have done is learnt from self-build guides and a lot of patience.

For someone who admitted no experience at all...the results show otherwise. I couldn't have done one myself so I give you 👍👍👍👍 👍perfect score. For people who are just here to find mistakes..go build one yourselves and see if you can compare. Just amazing.

Looks great! Well done.
One piece of advise....for your next project...hang the ceiling drywall first and then add the side wall sheets. This way the side wall sheets support the ceiling sheets in the corners and you will have less cracking. But other than that great job....and you were fast...you built the office in under 8 minutes... 😉

Looks good. Concerned with the windows and door. No structure above them. The weight of the roof is held up by the windows and doors. One day, that door won't open, and over time, the windows are going to break as the weight they are holding. Awesome to see people building and trying new things, enjoy the office!

When you build on your own, you build out of passion. It’s amazing 👍🏻😁🌻🙌👏

That’s so cool, I bet it was fun to build! I don’t know why but all of a sudden I want to go in my backyard and build one myself! Thanks for sharing

I love it! A bright airy place to work especially if like thousands and thousands of people nowadays if you do work from home, this is perfect. Great bonus when you come to sell it.

Looks great, but you're definitely going to have moisture issues. You saw how easily the stain got between the shiplap. I would absolutely have put some OSB on the frame, tyvek, then the cladding. Still a cool looking building though.

Really good video to watch, and built at the right time, comparing the cost of lumber today . I would have gone for a concrete base . My dad told me that if you can build a box, you can build anything .

Everyone's a critic! You learned something, which is you can go from concept to reality. Ideas are just commodities and taking action is where it's at.. the world is a merciless environment for all buildings, and you built it so you'll know how to make repairs when thr time comes. Never stop learning and then applying your knowledge. Looks like you and your family had a blast doing it too!

I certainly commend the work and effort here. And if/when any water/moisture issues were to surface, pretty sure he’s smart (and clearly motivated) enough to find a solution. Job well done! 😎👌

Richard admits he made a few mistakes here, but he gained experience, had a lot of fun and the final result looks great, well done.

Well done Richard. I see a few people in the comments have picked up on the floor issue. If it was me, I would dig a hole near each of the corners, get something solid in the bottom of the hole, then jack up the building high enough to get some blocks underneath the base. As long as it's raised off the floor by at least 200mm then you should get many more years of use before it needs repairing/replacing. Once again, well done on the build 👍

Inspirational! I have noooo experience either, and would be thoroughly proud of myself after a job like that. Enjoy the workspace!

Great work. Like many others have said, I would have insulated and water proofed the building more. It's easy to talk and give advice!! Enjoy your new building
