The sale of the USS Kitty Hawk, once the flagship of the US Navy's Seventh Fleet. The USS Kitty Hawk, in particular, holds a special place in the history of the US Navy, having played a significant role in various military operations and serving as a symbol of American naval power.

Smaller and more agile huh? That's must be why we're building bigger carriers.

No, they're being scrapped because they're over 60 years old. The US is STILL building carriers, and replacing the Enterprise and the older Nimitz class carriers one-for-one with new Ford class carriers. The second one is the new JFK, and the third is Enterprise.

Crazy that I can buy an entire aircraft carrier yet can barely afford to pay rent.

Yeah, they were conventionally powered. As of right now, nuclear powered carriers are just being scrapped, because of the issues with the reactors. That's why Enterprise (the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier) was scrapped instead of being turned into the museum it rightfully should have been

That doesn't explain the one-cent price. The steel certainly has a value of more than one cent, even after costs.

Sorry what are you talking about? Standard contract law, you need ‘consideration’ in order for the sale to be legal, so a nominal amount must be included. Even 1 cent counts as consideration.

Kitty hawk and JFK are the last of the non-nuclear carriers in the US NAVY. I think that one of them would have made amazing museum ships. But as far as I know they scrapped them because they had been sitting for a very long time rusting away. From the looks of them, I don’t think they could have been reactivated very easily or cheaply. I salute both ships and the men who served on both carriers for their service…🫡🇺🇸

The fundamental of naval power is still surface operations by the destroyers, cruisers and carriers. But with larger and more advanced threats such as those of China (and its increasing naval and air force buildup), the Air Force is also playing a crucial role in maritime strike operations utilizing the strategic bombers to carry anti-ship missiles (such as the AGM-158C LRASM).

Carriers, Cruisers, Destroyers will CONTINUE as the BASIS of Surface Operations for the foreseeable future Along with submarines, this team will DOMINATE any conflict the ADDITION of drones in air, sea and subsurface warfare will bring a new dimension to war at sea, doing jobs to assist the fleet to WIN !

Needed to keep Kitty Hawk and Constellation in a ready reserve
When we get into a war we will probably lose several carriers and need replacements quicker than we can build new ones

You need to go back to small, fast, agile jeep carriers with either of squadron of fast attack interceptors or drones

Kitty Hawk was never the flagship of Seventh Fleet. Blue Ridge has been the flagship for years.

This is an outrageous back room deal. The scrap metal alone for a ship this size it worth millions! Copper wiring alone is of enormous value. Steel, aluminum, bronze, the amount is staggering. The producer and narrator of this skit knows two things about the Navy: Jack N' Schit!!! USN. Retired.
