A. Empathy – fuels connection, is feeling with people, is a choice and it’s a vulnerable choice. In
order to connect with someone, I have to connect with something in myself that knows that
feeling. Begin with the response by saying, “At least…” and what makes something better

B. Sympathy – drives disconnection, understanding from a far.

There is a video scenario about a nursing scholar named Theresa Wiseman who studied very
diverse professions where empathy is relevant and came up with four qualities of empathy:
- Perspective taking – ability to take the perspective of another person.
- Recognize their perspective as their truth.
- Staying out of judgement – not easy when you enjoy it as much as most of us do.
- Recognizing emotion in other people, then communicating that.

Is it possible to get this properly subtitled for Deaf people, please? The current captioning is inefficient as it mismatches with what's said.
