The reporters start by asking him why he’s retiring but then start pointing out that he’s been stalked, the target of murder attempts, and lacks a proper education. I think they answered their own question.

fun fact: Ash could be a battle frontier brain since after beating the frontier, it was stated that he could have the job and after he refused due to still wanting to travel, it was stated that the job was always there for him.

Honestly, I could see Ash opening up a Pokemon Gym, not one that is a Gym Leader, but one that takes new trainers and teaches them how to get their bearings as up and coming trainers, learning tactics, combinations, weakness exploits, understanding type combinations and fighting styles. Would be a good fit for someone like Ash.

Considering this world REVOLVES around pokemon, and Ash has fought in every league in existence, had lengthy experience with hundreds of species, and knows famous pokemon scientists as well as his peer trainers, I'm sure he could eke out a fairly comfortable living somewhere.

Considering how many restaurants he's been to, how many flights to regions he's made, how many signs and fliers he's come across to decide where he's going, I'm pretty sure it's a safe bet that Ash never forget how to read. He does it all the time technically.

I like to think that ash got off relatively well. Kid traveled the world, made connections, and became familiar with how others conduct business. Prof oak is the one I'm concerned about. Dude sent off a 10 year old on an unpaid tour to do research while aiming for the kid's mother. Also, lore wise didn't ash get married to his unseen before childhood friend, and they had a daughter.
