I highly doubt it’s actually sixth gen. Aircraft generations aren’t just some label you throw around, each generation has to be a substantial upgrade from the last. Considering that these countries have been struggling to match the stealth capabilities of the F-117, which came out forty years ago, I doubt they’ve made anything sixth gen. Barely meets the qualifications for fifth gen. We have far better tech than the F-117 by now, and they’re still trying to reach that old benchmark.



And because I know these comments are coming. Serbia shot down _a singular_ F-117 due to blind luck and a failure in planning. The base they took off from was in clear sight of Serbian forces, who relayed the info to their commanders. They noted that no SEAD aircraft had taken off with them, so the Nighthawks were alone. They also knew the Nighthawks were flying the same route every night. One guy turned on his old, low frequency radar, and saw nothing. He turned it off and back on, still nothing. Normally his training would tell him to cut and run, because he just exposed his location to SEAD aircraft. But because he knew there were none, he turned the machine back on once more. And when he did so, it just so happened the Bombay doors on the Nighthawk were open, meaning he could see it and get a shot. Now, the firing button on the F-117 doesn’t actually drop the bombs, it just gives permission for the plane to do so at the optimal moment. That’s important because those doors are sometimes open for less than a second. This guy was EXTREMELY lucky to even see this thing, and for a long time Serbia has basically been allowed to hype it up like a big achievement, because the U.S. military didn’t really care that much about the loss. Just like how England still hypes up its singular Football World Cup victory against Germany, even though Germany has won four world cups. Nobody ever corrected them, because no one on the receiving end really cared. Our response was similar to Germany’s. We shrugged and said “eh, it happens.” Now everyone latches onto that old story to try and shit on the Nighthawk. There’s plenty of real things to do that for, believe me. If you took off and landed, you’d be lucky if all your systems were still working properly. But the Nighthawk’s stealth is the one thing that works on that aircraft, and even other military superpowers have been struggling to try and match it.
