Aerospace engineer here:
-Delta wing design: a good delta wing design can have similar capabilities to designs with stabilizers. Removing stabilizers increases stealth due to less large angled surfaces. As radars get more advanced, so does stealth. Anyways this thing will never see a dog fight. Today, if you see the plane, chances are you weren’t the target.
-3 engines: this is normally done for increased reliability due to engine failure. Typically if you need more power you make the engine bigger. It’s not gonna increase the heat signature necessarily, you produce similar heat with one large engine. Honestly only the engineers and operators will know the answer.
Edit: Also forgot to mention that Delta Wing designs offer much better load distribution allowing you to make the plane lighter. This has basically been Northrop’s entire bet, that delta wings are the best. I still have absolutely no clue why they chose 3 engines besides the fact that maybe they’re planning to have this plane get shot at a lot and they want to make it as robust as possible. Kinda scary if you think about it, they could be targeting invasions into countries like Vietnam or the Philippines that have less advanced air defenses such as machine guns. All speculation, regardless.

This thing is NOT a fighter in the traditional sense. Its meant to be a high altitude, high speed, missle truck and have bombing capabilities. It could be receiving data from AWACS and launch hypersonic missles from great distances. Also, the Chinese haven't weighed in from what ive seen but it's designation of JH would literally be fighter bomber. In theory, its got a good degree of stealth, can protect itself well if needed, and still have a bombing payload

2 engines are meant to boost maneuverability while 3rd in center will help it achieve hypersonic Mach 4 speed into edge of space. Smart design.

When an Indian talks about Chinese tech, it is totally out of envy.

2 traditional jet engines combined with a scramjet engine for hypersonic, Mach 5+, on the brink of space flights.

“Can only be stabilized by computers” while showing a German 1944 Horten 229 which flew without computers.

U guys need to appreciate China.
India started its aircraft program much earlier than china, we have not made 3.5 gen yet. Dont say Tejas is 4th gen. 🤣

2 engines for chilling.
3 engines for " Rock N Roll" 😂

The correct name is JH-36.
In Chinese shortform.
J - fighter
H - bomber
A longrange bomber with some fighter capability.
Able to carry out mission alone.

Some speculations say that 3rd engine is for flying at high speed at very high altitudes where regular engines can't work efficiently and where no weapons can shoot it down

Dont be jealous. India should accept truth and work hard on their on platform. REMEMBER, when America saw soviet had make a new fighter, they accepted it and made f15 that is still the best plane in the world.
Edit: Thanks for likes

The new jets are only being used as missiles trucks, sensor platforms, and drone command centers.
So you will want a two man crew to handle all the systems, and a large internal weapons hold.

You don’t need any dogfighting maneuverability. If you come to that close an encounter, then all your standoff weapons have been exhausted or failed - you might as well bail out at that point.

Given that internal payload increases by the cube of your outer dimension, but your radar cross section only increases by the square, you will happily slightly enlarge your outer dimensions.

While your UV and IR signatures go off to the rear, so it hardly makes a difference in detectability whether your exhaust comes from 2 or 3 engines.

Most probably they go for 3 engines because their engine technology is still very far behind.

And all those sensors, radars, jammers, and whatnot other electronics gizmos need an enormous electric power supply to be taken from one of those engine shafts.

China is challenging the conventional engineering thinking the way other rising nations have in the past. That's what it means to advance and progress. And crumbling nations of today are skeptical, disbelieving and stuck in the past just as the crumbling nations of the past. They believe that they know more, that they know everything and that is why they can never advance.

This Indian guy sounded more jealous then a spectator. 😂

The third engine might not be an engine, it might be a Flame Jet Generator to service the enormous electrical power requirements of sixth gen aircraft.

It's clearly a bomber, I don't even understand why so many people call it a fighter

This Indian Commentators sounds like Jealousy towards This Chinese Jets....😂

im guessing the third engine is pulse detonation engine for hypersonic speed.

I m Chinese and I agree with your analysis. According to latest information, this jet is supposed to fire long range air to air missiles before the enemy jet discover it, with its stealth capability. So finish the combat before enemy even noticed. Like a sniper. Chinese air to air missiles have much longer range than the US AIM.

Three engines mean triple supersonics ! China has new breakthrough on designing engines.
