Just use 8/32 nuts on the screws and adjust for perfect placement.

lol these comments are hilarious. This trick works well and lasts way longer than you would expect. (My exterior porch light has been installed this way for 6 years now) so this works well, and anyone who says it is wrong haven’t worked on a remodel job. I bet none of these “electricians” could frame a wall, then sheath it, and put up siding and also run all of the electrical. People are so quick to judge these days 😂

Looks like the shorts audience is a lot more rowdy than the full-length videos 😂

Those tv spacers have so many uses like that it's crazy, I find new uses for them all the time because we have bags and bags of them hanging around as well.

Typically these are installed with machine screws, id simply put the screws through the plate and put 2 nuts on the end, adjust the first nut to the depth it needs to be to tighten up and be flush and then when you find the right depth with that nut take the 2nd and tighten it against the first nut to keep it from backing itself out with wind or vibrations. Not sure if it would be code with that big of a spacing or not but it would be a lot more secure than the wire because the wire can simply compress down and out within the box over time, The bolt keeps it from shrinking into a smaller diameter but nothing stops it from growing into a bigger diameter thus losing length.

Thank you Studpack!! I used this technique couple weeks ago! Worked great!!

Better method, buy spacer rods and cut them to perfect size. Will hold under compression and load and keep position. Which those wire coils will not.

You also need a BE1R ROUND BOX EXTENDER to make that code compliant. The extension sleeve with fix the spacing issues as well. 😎😎

I've been using wire like that for many years! Works great to bring out a receptacle also

Box extension is what's needed there for code compliance

I guess this would work in a pinch but I prefer a box extender because it would provide support behind the entire outer edge of the bracket.

I installed the box with the flange outside, and against the plywood wall, so it could be replaced if needed. I was going to use a router to set the flange in flush, but the light fixture is only slightly larger than the box and my practice piece indicated that the cut edge might show. So I left the flange sitting as is, but drilled and tapped new holes in the bracket for the set screws, so the light fixture would sit flush and not rock on the bracket.

Pex supply lines work great for this. Just cut them to whatever length you need them

Bought spacer kits on Amazon recently after seeing a short. Cost almost nothing and they are universal. I always saved my tv spacers for this type of thing too.

I use the TV spacers for many uses too!! I still would have use the tv spacers with a flat washer to get the size you needed!! Anyway great job as usual!!

When I wired up my spacers and flipped the switch, it shocked the hell out of me. I used green wire though, I think that's the problem

I tried the same trick when I proposed to my ex-girlfriend.

I said “it works great!”
She left me and needed more spacers.
I was shocked, but stayed grounded.
