The reason why that lean back is helpful is because, if the eccentric stretch is the most hypertrophic part of the lift, you want to be able to do that as heavy as possible, but without the lean back, you won't be able to lift such a heavy weight in your concentric movement... That's just my thoughts anyway, dunno what the literature is on that.

Definitely true if you just want to grow. But if you still need maximum strength for certain sports, the taking it all the way to the chest is still important.

i'm getting back into working out after a long period of just coasting essentially. i did a lot of swimming when i was younger and dont really wanna be doing it again so these videos/shorts, on whatever topic it may be are really insightful even if i dont end up doing the exact exercise in them. so thank you, a lot

I use that exact style bar suspended from my garage for pull-ups and like the feel of the movement.

I been doing my lats exactly how he does glad I was right by accident. I also do it the way Jonni says to do it more like a pull up I incorporate both.
