"On Friday, India's Election Commission announced that the Bharatiya Janata Party had swept the five-week election for the Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament. The BJP exceeded already high expectations by winning an absolute majority, capturing 282 of 543 seats. With coalition partners, the party will control 337 seats.
The Indian National Congress, which has dominated the world's most populous democracy since independence in 1947, suffered its worst electoral defeat ever. Congress took just 44 seats. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh resigned on Saturday.

In the Indian political context, the biggest loser was Rahul Gandhi, who would have replaced Singh had Congress been successful at the polls. His heart obviously wasn't in continuing his family's hold on power, however. "* The Young Turks hosts Ben Mankiewicz and Ana Kasparian break it down.

The Young Turks (Winner - Best Political Podcast & Best Political News Site of 2009) were the first original talk show on Sirius satellite radio and the first live, daily webcast on the internet. But that is not the revolution.

We are a rare show that combines all of the news that people care about in one place. We are not afraid to talk about politics and entertainment and sports and pop culture. But that is not the revolution either.

The real revolution is in daring to be honest with people. We don't patronize our viewers or lie to them. We have real conversations and deliver the news honestly.

I wish America would have a voter turnout like this. We have too many people in this country who both criticize the government and do nothing about it.

Are you kidding me? I live in mumbai and my house is worth 1.2 million rupees but I AM NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING RICH. Merely a middle-class Indian, at least a middle-class Mumbai guy.

I have seen all of your videos. But i am sad to say this was very very poorly researched. It almost seemed as if you guys had just googles stuff 1 hour. Not all the candidates are rich and majority of the elected candidates come from a non-bjp party. There are many more extrelemy important aspects which you forgot to cover. This video was indeed an insult to India. This wasn't journalism but a poorly researched analysis which you guys dont even understand. Could you guys not even google what "Communal disharmony "means ? I was about to be a member on tyt network but now ....

What these holier-than-thou western liberals don't mention is the very material progress that Modi has created in his homestate of Gujarat. The GDP is way ahead of the national average, electricity supply is 24-hr in Gj, investment is immense and unemployment is the LOWEST in the entire country. He is clearly an example of economic progress and as Bill Clinton said "it's the economy, stupid." It's easy to sit in the western ivory tower that was built centuries ago by capitalistic industrial revolution and pontificate your diseased socialist ideas on a poor nation who can do without the bad advice.

1 million Indian rupees =$15, 380
So not a lot of rich people
Try to do a little research before discussing news.
Most of the issues were researched very casually

Educate yourself on the topic before commenting on Indian politics, or world affairs in general. Also, do you ever do a follow up of these videos? Like, "Indian economy was stagnant, ... no economic plan of the new president Modi.." .. how has the country and the man with no plan fared over the years? I guess, if you come across as wrong or the so called pro-business republican leaning guy doing well does not suit your rhetoric, you won't bother delving into the reasons anyways. It is because you see the world through a dichromatic lens of US politics. Its ok to extrapolate, but understand that oversimplification to suit a narrative is also biasing in nature.

Love the ignorance in the comments, just because it won't work for us...doesn't mean it won't work for another nation. Don't relate one country's politics to another...especially when they're obviously vastly different.

1 million in Indian Currency is not a big deal. Do remember that Indian currency is 1/60th of American Currency. You don't even get a 2 BHK flat in 1 million in Delhi.

Hey TYT. Indian follower of your channel here. Absolutely love your content.
And thanks for being at least slightly informed here (and dare I say, being a bit un-American) Indian elections and India in general is complicated beyond belief. And some your arguments were very reductionist and simplistic and ignored the mind boggling diversity that exists in Indian political and social scene. Still, I would applaud you for atleast you guys made an effort to get a handle of the situation here.

Actually I live in Gujarat and the people here are REALLY GOOD (when compared to rest of India).
People in Gujarat have business in their culture, don't turn to crime and have good temperament. So I'd say its all about the people, Sure Modi does have good policies but I'd give more credit to the people here. Vadodara, Gujarat is the 2nd safest city in India and in about 7 years I haven't heard of any crimes here except for 2 house robberies.

Modi won because of his hardcore hindu nationalism and what has been described as "muscular views on foreign policy", not bbecause of economics

It is astonishing to see the lack of research. I have watched a lot of TYT videos and my general feeling was that they get their analysis right. However, in this case they just have it all wrong. Maybe, they should have spoken with a known Indian journalist before coming up with this inaccurate analysis, or for that matter any educated Indian.
