Which London road has the most pubs?

I've done a couple of videos now about roads in London which used to have lots of pubs, and now only have one or two.

...and that led to the question: Which road in London has the most pubs on it now?

It seems this question hasn't been answered anywhere else that I could find, and perhaps partly because it's not as straightforward to answer as it first seems!

So come with me as I look at three possible ways of answering the question, and for each one I find a related pub, wherein (at least for the first two) I also do a bit of the usual talk about its architecture, interior and history.

Thanks to some of these resources I found useful in making this video.

Diamond Geezer's article about the number of high streets in Greater London:

Morning Tweedy. Those naming rules are starting to make the Mornington Crescent rulebook sound simple 😉. All that research must be exhausting...! As Spring has sprung, looking forward to more Tweedy Outdoors too.

There is some excellent research here! I remember Commercial Road in East London in the mid-70s and have the original CAMRA City and East London beer guides from 1975 and 1976. There were pubs a plenty at that time leading to Limehouse, more or less on every street corner...

Can’t believe I have come out of my local the Princess Victoria to find it on your latest update. It is often used in filming from an episode of Minder through to King of Thieves with Michael Caine and most notably the Guy Ritchie film The Gentlemen

Mate these just keep getting better. I know there's a lot of work and possibly anxiety that goes into these segments, but let it come when it does, we'll be here. Best show on Youtube and I envy your confidence. Cheers from Dunedin, New Zealand.

Love your pub visits, love your walks and outdoor cooking and these one-off themed videos add a bit of extra novelty value. Great work.

Another gem - a lot of research and leg work. Thank you. My daughter (yes the same pesto loving one from Tweedy Outdoors) often asks for pub recommendations and I use your channel frequently to gen up and then show off! Cheers.

Splendid video! You quite obviously put your Oyster Card to good use on this one. A bit of bad luck with Harvey’s, though. Thank you so much for taking the time to craft another marvelous presentation…you are truly appreciated…CHEERS!!!🍻

Recent subscriber here. My wife and I are enjoying binge watching your videos on this channel and your wine channel as well. We’re not from London but it’s a favourite destination. Your insights are helpful! Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Hi Tweedy. Stellar work sir. Very interesting and thought provoking. Back in the day (late 70’s) our local pub crawl was off the Uxbridge Road, at Ealing Broadway. The road with pub after pub was St Mary’s Road / Ealing Green. I have long left the area and wonder how many survive as pubs today? Keep up the good work. Hope Harvey’s Sussex is on next time for you. 👏👏👍😀🍺

a very brave effort indeed, I remember questionnaire years ago, maybe around the 1980s asking football fans in England on various subjects for example what car do you drive, what sauce, if any do you put on your English breakfast, to what soap do you use, it was very extensive, in spite the fact the questionnaire was very labourious, many many thousands completed and posted their answers, anyway in one category it turned out that Tottenham Supporters drank the most Beer in England, out of the Hundreds of Football Clubs in England at last we had something to celebrate, I was very very Proud...Hooray we actually Won something that I can celebrate, with a few Beers to my Dying Day.

Firstly...WOW ! How much work went into this video ? I very much appreciated the effort and was thoroughly entertained, loved the graphics as well.

Here in Toronto a.k.a. "The Colonies" there are a number of Plastic Pubs, those businesses that have little or no history as a Pub, are mostly corporate and have no right to be called a Pub, but in a city as new as mine, beggars can't be choosers.

As my blathering pertains to your presentation, a friend of mine a third generation publican, is of the opinion that the dwindling number of proper "stand at a bar" establishments are due to a decreased number of punter's caused by attrition, those of us that are getting closer to joining the choir invisible and to newer generations that tend to do their socialising at home rather than at a Pub or bar...more fool's them.

All I can say is that I'm very thankful to have lived, stood and enjoyed a bar at many a good pub here and in England.

Thank You John for the wonderful video !

I found your channel about 3 weeks ago and I have really enjoyed watching and learning about these London Pubs. My wife and I are coming from Kansas City, middle of America, to London Friday March 28, 2025 for her work. I on the other hand will be checking out a few of these gems. Thank you so much and looking forward to more videos.

This is great - good research and fascinating. Kilburn Road, ha ha. typical! As far as i know Irish centre in Kilburn has a working bar - might make it the winner?

Hi Tweedy from Canada. My mother was a war bride and while she only made 2 trips home to London she was always a supporter of anything British. My father often commented that she had the Union Jack tattooed on her backside. She grew up on or near Holloway street and so I am sure her heart would have been warmed by this video. My wife and I a frequent visitors to central London and I am amazed to see how many pubs that you have visited are pubs that we have also been to. Cheers to you and all your fellow YouTubers who show the wonders that are London.

Good evening, Tweedy.
Excellent video, Sir !! You must have spent a lot of time researching this one 😄👍
In my much younger days - late 1970s to mid 1980s, I must have visited a fair few of the pubs on the Uxbridge Road, from Hanwell to Uxbridge. Happy days !! 😆😆
Many of them, alas, have long since disappeared over the pasting years - as noted whenever I have visited that general area after moving away many, many years ago 😒☹️.
