Theres now a massive robot and Ai race between dozens of companies in multitude of countries. Crazy stuff. Big things are clearly going to happen in the coming years.

China is a player, my daughter taught English there. Robots will help their aging population.

I mean, there is a big difference between the 2. Open ai wasn't really about the physical robot. It was about it responding in real time and generation answers for things it was not trained for. One looked alive. The other was like a preprogrammed item for the task it was doing.

I like the modularity and plug and play approach you can upgrade as you go... New head, new hands, etc... And the magnetic clip on attachment connect is genius... Go Go Gadget Taser Hands! Go Go Gadget Chef's Wisk! The possibilities are virtually endless!

i won't be impressed until I see a bot juggling 5 varied pieces of fruit on a unicycle

If you compare OpenAI’s robot to UBTech’s, you will see that OpenAI’s robot moves its torso and legs to maintain balance whereas UBTech’s robot is stiff and locked down to the floor. If you watch the video at 2x speed, you will see that UBTech’s robot sways back and forth when its arms do major movements 6:33, push against the hood of the car 15:30, and when the arms return to their starting position 4:19. This is a fair indicator that we are watching a robot that would struggle with manipulating objects of more than trivial mass. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a demo this primitive. Every product needs to start somewhere, but the significance of the demo given the state of robotics at the moment leaves a lot to be desired.

So every time it does something it plays a suspense music?

Modularity secured by magnetics is actually an impractical idea, and It's also moving and responding a fraction slower than the competition.

Insane to see all these companies ive been following for the past 6 or so years are getting into the robotic and AI race.

Here is a summary:

The video discusses a new humanoid robot, the UB Tech Walker S, developed by the Chinese company UB Tech. The robot showcases several advanced capabilities that highlight the rapid progress in robotics and the integration of state-of-the-art AI systems.

Key points:

- The Walker S has a modular design that allows it to quickly swap out hands and attachments to adapt to different tasks, demonstrating impressive dexterity and adaptability.

- The robot exhibited a remarkable degree of autonomous task execution, such as folding a shirt, without apparent pre-programming. This showcases its advanced AI and decision-making abilities.

- The robot integrates Baidu's large language model, Ernie, to leverage sophisticated reasoning and language understanding capabilities, similar to OpenAI's GPT-4.

- UB Tech is a prominent player in the Chinese robotics industry, having developed a diverse portfolio of humanoid and service robots.

- The capabilities of the Walker S highlight the global race to incorporate cutting-edge AI into robotics platforms, which is likely to be a defining trend in the industry going forward.

While the Walker S may not match the fluidity of some other advanced humanoid robots, its ability to autonomously execute complex tasks and adapt to its environment using sophisticated AI systems is a significant step forward in the field of robotics.

The question isn't who can build them better or first, it's who will implement them in their economy in a way that will completely change society as a whole. At the end of the day, it's all about money. Will the US adopt these on a mass scale, or will China? I can definitely see China adopting these machines on a mass scale, but I don't know about the US. There will be protests from unions to prevent this from happening, and will the elites even want this to happen. They are perfectly fine with the way things are. They can just bring in more workers from other countries. China on the other hand will have to think about their economy going forward. They will need more labor force. If China does adopt this in a mass scale, they will have to think about UBI for sure.

Oh believe me, the modular aspect, was the first thing I noticed, I went back 10secs as soon as I saw, and heard the click.

Folding cloths has always been thought of as the pinnacle of robot capability. It's the one chore everyone wants to hand off.

Come on, Walker, move it or we'll be here till the cows come home!

I think he moved the object to prove that the robot will stop if it sees a human so it doesn't hurt you! :D

why do all of these robots seem so damn slow, i thought we would be way further with animation by now, whats the issue, slow motors or slow processing?
