Speaking of "Hidden Messages, " one I have noticed in this film has to do with Maui giving Moana his ore. Most people will recognize it as a symbol of him showing his approval that she can take charge of the boat as well as the journey. What most won't recognize this as a symbol of is Maui's love for Moana. Before giving her the ore he looks at the side of it that has his heart etched in it, then gives it to her, technically symbolizing him giving her his actual heart as well as the role of lead wayfinder for the journey.

When Maui sings “I buried an eel…now you have coconuts” was actually a real myth of Sina who happened to be Moana’s mothers name in the film. She was said to be so beautiful her beauty matched Tui Fiti so King Fiji turned himself into an eel so see her beauty with his magic fleeting he told her to bury his head. The little mermaid took place in the Atlantic Ocean
