Formula
The flow rate is calculated in Drops/min OR gtt/min
Administration is very important to note the cardinal points
Drop factor – the number of drops in one ml of solution is called drop factor.
Macro drip sets – they have 10, 15, 20 gtt/ml
Micro drip sets – the have 60 gtt/ml
A patient is receiving 300ml normal saline IV over 4 hours, using IV drip set with a drop factor of 20 drops/ml. how many drops/min should we delivered?
