Nothing embraced iMessage for Android. Here's what that means 👀

In Europe even if you have an iPhone, you simply use WhatsApp. It's almost rude to initiate a discussion with someone you meet for the first time using Apple messages which may or may not revert to SMS depending on the other person's device. You simply don't do it. The fact that iMessage and FaceTime are considered 'lock-in' cultural phenomena in the US is the most head-scratching thing for us.

What’s weird is that Japan has a surprisingly high iPhone rate and people buy iPhones because they’re iPhones but none of them use FaceTime or iMessage and use some third party apps.

It's WILD how much has changed in the 6 days since this was uploaded. Nothing has canceled its iMessage service, and Apple has announced that the iPhone will support RCS next year.

Thank you for being the only YouTuber on this topic to have an awareness of what happens outside of the US. Also, I live in Japan where iPhones are clearly the dominant smartphone but no one uses iMessage here either - everything is LINE.

It's crazy to me how the US is so deep into the Apple ecosystem and how it's virtually impossible to live with an Android phone because everyone uses the Apple messaging apps (iMessage, FaceTime, etc) In Europe, whether you have an iPhone or an Android, everyone just uses third party apps like whatsapp so you can pick either phone and you'll be fine

As a teenager myself, I constantly have to defend my pixel 7 pro against all my iPhone user friends. And the weird thing is that almost all of them think Samsungs are the only androids. Gotta give props to Apple though, they got them early, and they got them good.

I have said this a million times before and it bears repeating a million more times, but America absolutely loves to find creative solutions to problems that shouldnt exist in the first place.

Yesterday they announced that Sunbird is shutting down for security concerns. I am pretty sure that this video had a big impact on them

I'm getting the "Apple suing the developers of this app" vibes already

5:54 Props to Marques for calling out the potential security concerns, despite being quite close to Carl Pei and Nothing

As a college student in the US, the analysis of the iPhone effect is right on. Not having an iPhone is almost a sin to our generation. You’ll be left out, intentionally or unintentionally.

And security risks they were! This video ages well. Kudos Marques for highlighting potential security issues which materialized in the worst possible way after Nothing launched their "app".

Ah yes, the classic "if you can't beat em, become them"

I am a teen, and use a Pixel 7a, and I have to say, it also depends on where you live. If you are in a city, the iPhone pressure is so freakin high because everyone has their phones out, and constantly looking at what other phones people have and judging you by it. If you live in a more rural place, people could care less about what phone you used. I'm between the two types of places, but nobody I've been around has shown disgust that I'm not using an iPhone, and I will almost always be using a Pixel regardless of what others say...

I was in Uni in 2016, we started with maybe 30% of the people with mac. By the time we were in our 4th year there was about 85%+ macs. It is quite insane how that goes. This is in Australia as well, windows laptop is essentially for uni students who had no job and couldn't afford to buy their own mac.

I have a sister and she literally bought a refurbished mac in 9th grade for like half the price just to fit in with her classmates. It is insane how much of a chokehold that Apple has on the youth.

Thank you for highlighting the security and privacy concern. Sunbird themselves weren't really forthcoming on _how_ their product would work. So thank you for shedding some light on the subject.

Not for nothing, but can we appreciate Marques and team creating such pleasing backgrounds. The red and blue with the I think natural light hitting the wall is 👌

After seeing this video, I’m really not surprised anymore that the US still relies so much on SMS and MMS if this is the only way to communicate with iPhone users from an Android phone.
For me, it’s very common to have multiple messenger apps installed, but even here in Europe, many people are not willing to use something other than WhatsApp 😂

I’ve been on college campuses for 15 years and have watched the % of Mac laptops in the campus coffee shop go from 30% to 80%. No doubt this in part is due to iPhone ownership and loyalty to Mac ecosystem.

The name of the company makes a lot of what he says unintentionally funny. Like "I confirmed this with nothing" so confidently when making a point.
