And the Seals, Delta and SF command treated us like we were a jv team

Seals are a scalpel. Rangers are the sledgehammer. Both jobs are respectable.

My grandfather was an army ranger in ww2. Best friend of my life. He had missing fingers but still could fix anything. He took me to every sports practice and game even though my parents showed up at 0. He is a true hero never mind the war What he did for my siblings and me meant everything

I was a M2 gunner from ‘05-‘06 for a year and a half in northern Iraq. I have ample experience with the M2 and its effects on various hard and soft targets. An m2 is a big gun, it shoots a ballistic piece of metal, it is not magic and will not damage anything that it does not impart kinetic force to by impacting. Period. If you think it does you misunderstand physics, and have no real world experience.

This gentleman may have been a bad mf but he is talking from his fourth point of contact about the lethality of the M2. Now if you DID hit someone with that bullet, they typically died. I never saw anyone survive a 50 hit because the wound depth and channel size was just devastating. I suppose a far extremety hit if quickly tournequetted could be survivable though, I just never saw it.

I was a Green Beret for 15 years and Nicholas Irving is not wrong. We love our Rangers! Those guys are amazing.

He’s probably not wrong but Rangers and Seals are completely in their skillsets. Seals are stealthy and are precision tools whereas the rangers will come in and fuck everything up if they have to

“No seal has ever had to rescue us” that line kinda cold

I’ve run a twin .50 off the back of a MK-V SWCC boat while in the corps and he’s telling an old man’s bar lie about the ballistics.

All the other units mentioned are small direct action groups with specific mission sets. They are not infantry. Rangers are elite infantry. Made to seize airfields and overwhelm large amounts of enemies anywhere in the world on short notice. Rangers are a machete, the other units mentioned are scalpels. Sometimes you need a scalpel, sometimes you need a machete.

All of thise units he named are fine surgical tools. The Rangers are a sledgehammer

I respect the cook, truck driver, infantry man, intelligence analyst and all. That SEAL or Ranger can’t do their job without a long line of others.

Marines are a sledgehammer, SEALS are a scalpel, Rangers are a bone saw.

Mad respect to the Rangers. That said, he’s basically comparing hammers to scalpels. One is meant for blunt force jobs and also has more utility to it for everyday use. The other is meant for more surgically precise work. Both are highly valuable assets to have on their own.

As a sf marine I can say army rangers are badass af

💯 Different tools for different situations. Sometimes you need a scalpel and sometimes you need a sledgehammer. A scalpel isn’t effective at knocking down a wall nor a sledgehammer at preforming a precision cut. All that really matters is that both are better than anyone else’s tools of the same purpose. I remember when i was in airborne and a guy pitched the rangers to me. He said "We are Special Forces but our specialty is invasions. If you need to kill a individual you send a small seal team in but if you want to take a city? You call the rangers." I watched them do drills at Fort Benning and its just another level.

My dad was in the army and the one thing he’s always told me about the rangers is “They go in, and don’t care about what happens after that.”
