Colon Resection has got different meaning, only a small portion of the colon is removed, like the sigmoid colectomy transverse colecetomy, only a part of the colon is removed. That is one type. The other is called hemicoletomy, a little part is removed either on the right side or left side or what we call as pancolectomy where the whole of the large intestine is removed and sometimes it will be connected to the anal canal directly or it will be connected to where the abdomen is connected, outside, what we call as colostomy. These are the different varieties of colon resection. Depending on that there are different issues associated with this. If this is a partial removal of the coon, then no significant changes will be there for the patient and not much of an issue ifs there . More important is what is the diagnosis for what the colon is removed. That can give some complications and symptoms and what you can expect after coloectomy is not only it doesn’t depend on the removal of the colon. It depends on the general condition of the patient the age, his diabetic status, cardiac status and many other factors associated with the disease. All those have to be taken care when the colectomy is done.

One thing I noticed after my surgery which was 20 years ago, is that my energy level has never been the same. Is there anything that could help with this? I lost a foot of my large colon due to diverticulitis and a ruptured diverticulum.
