What I find really remarkable about these performances is that despite the fact that they are almost note-perfect reproductions of the original songs, often down to small nuances of tone and phrasing. they nevertheless feel 100% original, fresh, and heartfelt.  I think this is because they invest themselves so fully in the performance and in the emotions of the songs; their version becomes just as true as the original.
