Weinberg : Concerto pour violoncelle (Sol Gabetta / Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France)

Sol Gabetta et l'Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France sous la direction de Mikko Franck interprètent le Concerto pour violoncelle et orchestre en ré mineur op.43 composé en 1958 par Mieczyslaw Weinberg (1919-1996). Extrait du concert donné le 21 décembre 2018 à l'Auditorium de Radio France.

On connaît peu Mieczyslaw Weinberg, compositeur polonais dont le destin épouse les tragiques péripéties du XX e siècle. Né en 1919 à Varsovie, Weinberg étudie le piano avec son père avant de s’inscrire au conservatoire. Il a vingt ans lorsque la Pologne est envahie et sa famille entièrement exterminée. Seul survivant, il se réfugie en Biélorusse et s’installe à Minsk où il prend des leçons de composition en compagnie de Vassili Zolotarev. Quand les nazis envahissent l’URSS, il prend de nouveau la fuite et s’installe cette fois à Tachkent, en Ouzbékistan. Remarqué par Chostakovitch, il peut de fixer à Moscou en 1943 mais est arrêté sur ordre de Staline, en 1953, pour de prétendues activités sioniste ; la mort du dictateur, quelques semaines plus tard, facilitera sa libération. La fin des années 50 marque le début de la reconnaissance, d’autant que Chostakovitch le prend sous son aile : les plus grands interprètes russes jouent sa musique, mais ses dernières années sont marquées par un désarroi croissant et des difficultés matérielles. Il meurt dans la solitude et la détresse, après s’être converti in extremis au christianisme.

Weinberg, such an amazing composer. His whole family were killed by the nazis. Shostakovich saved him from the gulag in Stalinist Russia. And a music so profound, so touching, full of textures and passsages. This piece in particular brings tears to my eyes. An impeccable and heart felt performance. ❤

Wunderschöne Aufführung dieses relativ unbekannten doch perfekt komponierten Konzerts mit mildem doch gut artikuliertem Ton des genialen Solocellos sowie zurückgehaltenen und perfekt entsprechenden Tönen der anderen Instrumente. Die Kadenz klingt besonders schön und echt künstlerisch. Der intelligente Maestro dirigiert das ausgezeichnete Orchester in gut phrasierten Tempi und mit sorgföltig kontrollierter Dynamik. Alles ist wunderbar!

nicolasdelaforge Shostakovich a pris Weinberg comme élève quand il survivait misérablement après la mort de tous ses proches. Il fut un véritable ami jusqu'à la fin. Ami et mentor, comme on peut le voir sur les photos de l'époque. Ce concerto pour cello est une merveille.
