Hey, thanks for this really informative video. My son has just turned 16 months old. I felt like he was responding to his name, but in the past little bit, I’ve noticed he won’t do it. Like, not even 10% of the time, especially when playing. I removed him from distraction and tested him in the high chair, and he did respond a few times (will even respond to ‘bubba!’), but the more I repeated it, he just started tuning me out entirely. Aside from this, he is ticking all the boxes. Walked at 13 months and is now running, interacts beautifully, makes eye contact, laughs, plays, very interested in people, very smiley bub, very placid and copes well with change, has the vocab of about 10 words (bye, hi, mama, dada, buba, duck, dog, pop, more, book), and can repeat them back when asked, and can follow commands like clap, hands in the air, hands on head, wave, open, shut, etc. I am worried one of the issues is that we have been repeating his name so much with negative commands like “stop!” And “no!”, especially once he started walking and getting into things. I am wondering if this still sounds concerning and if you’d suggest anything.

I cried watching this video and the signs of autism . It’s weird because when he was a baby if I said his name he knew he would look at me and respond he’s 2 now you can say hi Kai and he will not respond he focus on Rachel Toddler Learning he tunes me out . He got tubes in his ears so I know he can hear me. He will come later and say hi mommy. When he was 9 months he would use a spoon to eat now he will only eat with his hands .

Do you have any strategies for when the child doesn’t respond to their name but they heard mom. This child has great hearing and noticed motorcycles and different sounds outside. When mom calls her name, especially while she’s doing something (often playing alone while mom cleans), she gets upset. I think I’m her moms that means “I have to stop playing” so that’s why she’s upset. I’ve suggested calling her name throughout the day and then giving positive reinforcement so she associates he name being called with something good

My 18 month son rarely responds to his name in any setting. He doesn't smile when you smile at him, he walks on his tiptoes and loves to spin in circles. We had his hearing checked and that's fine. When we tell him to come away from something or to stop it. We tried saying no, come away, don't do He will still continue to do it. We have moved him into the other room, tried distracting him with his toys. No sooner have we done this he will run back to do it anyway. He's not talking either
