I love it when people say why animals do what they do. It is hilarious to me.
When I talk to my dog, he tells me humans are full of shit.

Licking is a sigh of trust and affection. This is what my 60 years of personal experience tells me.

What dogs like best:
1) BEING WITH YOU!
2) Going somewhere, car, park, beach...
3) Cookies
4) Tummy rubs
5) Physical contact, snuggling, cuddling, petting.

I don't agree with the licking part. My dog does lick me when I put lotion on or I'm eating, but she also licks me when she's being affectionate. When I tell my dog I love her and say kiss kiss, she acts all goofy and gives me a kiss. I don't care what you say, it's a kiss from my dog. LOL

I've had many dogs through the years, and in my 60 yrs on this planet, I have come to the realization that my dogs licked my face, hands, head, neck, etc., for a multitude of reasons, including, but not limited to: showing affection, welcoming you home after work or being away, to get whatever sweat or salty residue might be on my skin, trying to get my attention (probably to be let outside), waking me up if something is happening in or outside our home. There's nothing "NOT cute" about it. I loved all my dogs, and I know they loved me, 'cause they would get up from where they were and move closer to me no matter what room I'm in. Begs the question if it is not affection, have you ever seen a dog lick the face or hands of somebody that they dog didn't like? Of course not.

Have you seen the many YT videos of a human kissing their dog on their head? Most immediate responses from dogs is to kiss the human back. While dogs licking you for your salt content may be true, I believe that dogs do kiss us back as a sign of affection.

Yeah, everyone is an expert, my dog licks me when I'm not sweaty or eating, we kiss each other because we are exchanging positive vibes of love. ❤

So when I told my dog "Dog Park" this morning and she ran up and licked my face she wanted to taste my sweat. Got it.

Canines in the wild will often try licking the facial area of the pack leader. It's an expression of submission or acknowledgement of the leader. So your dog is accepting you as the packer leader, which is an expression of affection.

Yea, and sometimes, like when you aren't eating and sweating, a dog lacks to show affection. Have these 'experts' ever been near dogs? Seriously, most of these 'experts' are dim.

How do you know? Did you ask the dog, or did he text you? Everyone is a vet, mechanic, or doctor. Maybe he just loves you.

BS, my dog licks me because she loves me

I TOTALLY DISAGREE with the licking statement. I have 6 Labrador Retrievers and they are all very affectionate. They lick when they are playful or excited that you are with them and when they are cuddling up on the couch with you !

There might be different reason for dog licking you, but one of them is to let you know they love you. We have been kissing dogs for thousands of years and they have learnt how to return that affection with a lick, usually a big slobbery lick.

Dogs also lick family members who are hurt or crying, as most dog lovers know. It seems whoever wrote this video has never lived with dogs much less know what they’re thinking.

WRONG! Then why does my dog wake me up with kisses to my face when I have absolutely no food in my mouth?

My dog does not lick me when I have food. In fact, he's not big on licking. Usually he does it when he comes to see if I am awake in the morning. As far as sharing food, he has just recently started bringing me his bones, putting them on my lap or burying them under the covers next to me... that is sharing from a dog who had food aggression issues at the pound, but is now showing he is comfortable sharing.

I literally tell my Corgi, “Wheres mom? Go upstairs and give momma a kiss” and he immediately gets happy, runs up the stairs, and gives his momma a kiss.

I think my cousins Rottweiler is just seeing what people taste like before he makes his mind up 😆

What did you do? Ask them? I get so tired of these so called "experts" telling us why pets do certain things!
