Sir Lindsay Hoyle faced cries of “shameful” and “bring back Bercow” as he explained his reasoning for selecting both the Labour and the Government Gaza amendments.

The Commons Speaker said: “I can inform the House that there is a precedent for an official opposition spokesperson being called second in the debate and move an amendment before a minister was called to speak in the debate in the circumstances.”

Hoyle said Labour’s amendment will be voted on first, followed by the SNP motion and then the Government’s amendment.

So the government can spend time with the opposition discussing some other countries problems but won't discuss and sort out our own problems okay

Voting on a ceasefire in London won’t make any difference to whatever is happening in the Middle East … why would it. It’s like voting for a ceasefire in Ukraine… well intentioned but futile… we have enough problems here to resolve right now.

The irony
They are calling for peace in an area they know little about, but can't get along with themselves while doing it

Most of them weren't so bothered when John Bercow repeatedly did it to frustrate brexit negotiations with the EU.

...to what end btw does this solve the cost of living crisis?
Wouldn't that be a better use of their time?

It’s important for those in power to implement justice, not use the best legal teams to evade it

Listening to a bunch of supposed adults shouting over each other just reflects why this country has become a bunch of self entitled individuals.

Isn't the story underneath this story that Labour MPs were being threatened and Starmer shut himself in a room with Hoyle to pressure him to make this decision for the "safety" of Labour MPs because of the mob outside?
