o Heavy Metals & Chemicals: Lead asbestos benzene mercury and carbofuran; these common industrial contaminants with high toxicities can infiltrate the water source and be potentially harmful to your health
o Microbial Cysts: Parasites such as cryptosporidium are commonly found in lakes and rivers. They have a high resistance over disinfectants such as chlorine and thus may be present even in treated water
Follow the below guidelines for when to change your Samsung water filter:
• 6 Months: Recommended for households with municipal water
• 3-6 Months: Changing the filter more often is recommended for households using well water
• Now: If water has visible particulates or an odor you notice a decrease in water flow or the filter indicator light is red (note: about 1 month before the filter needs to be changed the indicator will first turn orange)

A lot of people have commented to turn the water off first. While that is not required of all refrigerators, it's best to turn off the water before replacing your filter just to be safe.

Jim from The Office sure does know a lot about refrigerator maintenance.

I just replaced mine without turning off the valve, no water leaked out, took 30 seconds
Thank you for the video!

Wow. It took everyone's comments to finally help reset the red filter light. This is a ridiculous process. I'm a 73-year-old woman with a cardiac condition and no way am I going to move the refrigerator to shut the water valve off. After great difficulty removing the old filter, I was able to do it with a set of pliers still with some difficulty. Putting the new filter in was equally difficult. It took all my strength and the pliers to turn the filter into Lock, but then I could not turn the red filter light off. Thank you to the person who suggested pressing the Alarm for 3 seconds. At first, it didn't work, but that's because, in addition to pressing the Alarm for 3 seconds, I had to go back and press the Red Filter for 3 seconds. Finally, it worked. Had I known all this before purchasing the refrigerator, I would never have bought it. Don't get me wrong, I live the fridge, but changing the filer is another matter. Goes to show you, you have to check out EVERYTHING before making a purchase.

Thanks for the video. You’re definitely Jim Halpert’s (The Office) doppelganger.

This was very helpful, but to take it one step further, the red light is still on, and although there's instruction on the refrigerator, just add, don't forget to hold the filter reset button down for 3 seconds. Thanks for the help, short and simple video. Much appreciated.

Thank you very much for this informative video. Replacing the filter was very easy the first few times I did it; however, this last time when I tried to replace it there was a lot of pressure built up inside and it would push the filter back out, not allowing me to turn it all the way. Because of helpful comments below, I was able to turn off the water to my entire home, get the remaining water from the water dispenser out (less than a glass), and THEN the filter could be replaced. Also, for those not sure about how to turn off the "replace filter" warning light, on my fridge if you hold the "Alarm" button down for three seconds, the warning light will disappear. Thanks to all the commenters who provided help!

It doesn't mention in the instructions on the filter box to remove the cap from the filter, but I see it's off in the video. They really should mention that on the box, even if it seems like everyone should know that. A lot of us aren't handy, even to do something as simple as this, so thanks for the video! And you do look like Jim from The Office. I'm sure you hear that all time!

Would not have thought to look in such an obvious place. The design thinking was effective as it makes the add-on filter cost a priority!

Great help. Thank you. I can’t believe I looked all through out the fridge and missed that. Thank you.

FYI: Not only may you have to shut off the water in your house, you may have to shut the water off connecting to your fridge. This is what happened to me. I called Samsung and they said that water builds up behind the fridge in the water hose -- and the only way to turn it (because of the water pressure) is to shut off the water supply to the fridge. The problem of course, is that if the water supply is not easily accessible (which in my case is true), then you have to move the fridge so you can get to the hose. Since the fridge is very heavy and in tight spot, this is a huge inconvenience. Honestly, because you are supposed to change these filters every 6 months and if you have the same issue of not being able to easily shut off the water to the fridge, I may suggest to looking into a different fridge. It may not be worth it for all this trouble.

I have finally learned to use a pair of pliers. Only way to get water filter out, even with the water shut off. My refrigerator is a four door like the one in the video. Don't know if this will work if I don't turn the water off to release pressure, but I would love to be able to change the filter without turning the water off. Too trouble to get the frig out.

Wow thanks for this tutorial. I couldn't find my manual and when I downloaded one it was impossible to follow and didn't mention where the filter was located.

As others have said, even with the tap turned off, I had to use a set of vise grips to remove the old filter. If you do this make sure to use a towel with the vise grips to make sure you don't destroy the old filter and leave it irremovable.
