I'm back after three months. This comparison video is so valuable. The Split P didn't sound good at all until you engaged the Parallel switch. Very noticeable differences.

Night and day difference. Personally for my taste, the Split P is way ahead (not surprising as I am a bass humbucker fan); only clip that didn't impress me was parallel mode, I wouldn't bother adding this option if I fitted them in my bass (but because you've done this I now know - ty).
A great video showed off the differences (big and little) between the two pickups, with lots of real world examples - thank you

Being able to use parallel/series within one pickup is great option, nice of you to include both.

I loved all your Model P comparisons. They're all I needed to decided on a pickup for a bass I'm putting together...

I acquired a 1980 BC Rich Eagle. The DiMarzios are the stock ones. They sound GIGANTIC...so much so, that I haven't even needed to go active with any of my bands. It definitely has a nice high end spank that I love as well. Cuts through the mix nicely, makes my bass very deliberate in the mix without killing everything else...(it IS nice to have that option though haha)

The Split P sounded darker/duller than Model P. I like the clarity of the Model P.

Awesome video, the Split P is exactly what im looking for my bass build rn! Both awesome pickups, but the humbucker vibes from the split P are perfect for the BEAD tuning im going for

I love the Split P - I love how dark and muddy it is! Wonderful, for me.

My own take...the Split P would be great on a fretless...it almost has that bridge only sound and would make it fuller...

Model P sounds amazing. Lots of headrom, very clear.

Was very surprised to hear the model p sound brighter than the split p, usually the model p is described as dark and dimarzios website last time I looked seemed to suggest the split p was kind of scooped

This was very interesting as I have been curious about Dimarzio bass pickups for a long time, especially that Split P model.

Thank you for this demonstration. I didn't like the sound of the Split P until the Parallel change was engaged what or however you did that.

I do have a Fender Mexico P Bass that I have wanted to hot rod out for a long time with that Split P just based on the looks of it. I honestly thought it would sound like the other P model you demonstrated except bigger with more headroom, but it didn't.

Going to have to tell the tech though to install it as a Parallel. Still don't know or even try to understand what that means anymore.

I think that Split P would sound great with flats

Great comparison. Out of those two I prefer the Model P. No doubt that there both great products. That said I'm happy to stick with the pickups that I'm currently using which are the EMG GZR pickups. Each to their own.

Thanks for the review. It helped me decide. I ordered the Model P.

Those split P are a mudbucker, so dark and sludgy, in parallel mode get some clarity but still I would use them as mudbuckers for that deep thumpy woofer sound with flats or something

If I had a dual p-bass, I would use the split p for the neck pickup and the model p for the bridge!!!

Yes, please SPB-3 vs Dimarzio Model P. ....So, between these 2 you just compared, I definitely prefer the Model P, there´s some kind of liveniness and definition that the Split P lacks. Now bring on the SPB-3 (or even, the SPB-4) against the Model P!!!

Thanks Oliver for all the work you have done. I find it a valued reference. I've got a new double P fretless bass which is in need of pickups, and I am thinking the split Ps will do the trick.
