Had working experience in both substations and I'll choose AIS over GIS anytime as maintenance of an AIS is very easy and cost effective. GIS substations are said to be maintenance free, but if any defect occurs in GIS component you'll have to replace the whole unit/equipment, which is costly and time consuming.

Sir, In GIS Switchgear, Some Companies Like ABB, uses Vacuum for Arc Quenching purpose, So is there any need of Vacuum as we know there is already SF6 gas Which is highly Electronegative gas ( Easily Absorbs the free Electrons between the Arcing Contacts.

So please Suggests me, Why they are using Vacuum ? As I asked to them so they said Our GIS is Limited upto 33KV So this is new technology for Arc Interruption process, Increase the reliability of CB.
