By very popular demand: My take on the Editor X (by Wix) vs Webflow situation.

Webflow is obviously my tool of choice and its capabilities are what make it my absolute favourite software when it comes to creating super high-value websites with great customizability.

However, as you'll see in this video, Editor X is quite the beast. How much of a beast is it though?

Have you tried Editor X? Let me know in the comments!

In terms of the learning curve and ease of use, I view them this way:
Webflow = 3D Studio Max
Editor X = Figma
Wix Editor = PowerPoint
It all comes down to how much time and energy you want to invest into learning and working with each tool.

Editor X is trying to be the Figma of web builders. I want that.

WIX is a great company. The added competition can only be a good thing. I love Webflow and hopefully developments like this will lead them to improve areas they need to, quickly. Like e-Commerce PGP options.

The addition of an style guide is key. It will definitely speed up the delivery of the end product. I hope Webflow is seeing this and looks to make improvements to its integration and e-commerce.

After watching this video I decided to try out the Editor X. I've been using Webflow for almost two years now, so a comparison was going to be cool. I made a very, very basic website, just a hero image and a header + paragraph. The resulting website was 2mb in size. The image I used was only 16kb, mind you. The editor overall is very interesting, although it lacks some very basic features (such as hover, as mentioned), though it seems to make really bloated and heavy websites. As a comparison, a full Webflow page with several imagens, CMS collections, icons, animations and more weights 2.5mb, versus 2.2mb of a page on Editor X with one image and some text.

The pricing on Editor X is way more forgiving, specially since it supports my country's currency. Will be looking into it but it seems waaaay behind Webflow yet.
Cheers all :)

I'm literally only exited about Editor X because it means Webflow will have to pick up the pace on feature development 😁

Ran lookin fresh with that clean cut.. ✂️ Great side fade alignment, great contrast, right amount of facial white space and precise margining between the beard and the stache..

I give a 9/10.. Coz you know Ran.. There's ALWAYS room for improvement in design.. 🤣

Obviously I am a big time Webflow fanboy! However, Editor X has some great features. For me it’s all about the speed and quality of updates and added features. Both are viable tools right now. In my opinion, Webflow still outperforms EX. We will see who wins in the race for iteration and improvements!

Hey! Thanks for the video! I believe that editor X has a long way to go. I have used Squarespace, zoho sites, and have also played with wix. I am both a designer and developer. I think that editor x has a great future ahead. Having said that, the very reason that I turned to webflow is the complete customization and control. Dev teams can work along side design teams. Plus as an agency there is a ton of additional features built in to run my web design business directly through webflow. These are features that editor x does not have. While Wix does have a great ecosystem of apps, none of them are industry standard and to be honest, I have used tools where you are literally using their entire ecosystem. What I learned from that is that not all companies have the ability to do everything wonderfully. Not all companies can be like Apple. Even Apple intentionally does not do everything. There is a lot that they happily do not do. Plus, Webflow has some amazing integrations, one of which is zapper so it fits right in within any infrastructure. You can also seamlessly integrate Webflow with Atlassian, Airtable, AND InVision so while I think editor X is a great step in the right direction, I am still not sold. Plus with accessibility becoming a huge part of companies focus, webflow gives more control and customization options that editor x or wix directly. I like wix as a company but after dealing with so many platforms, Webflow takes the cake in my opinion. All webflow needs to do is come out with a native Mac, iPad, and iOS app and I would be a permenant convert lol. But thank you for your video! Have a blessed day filled with blessings and peace!

So far using Editor X has come more naturally than Webflow (by a long shot). I'm a designer first and although Webflow was great, Editor X just feels so normal. The learning curve is not nearly as difficult for me although I hope they add interactions because that was one of the things that drew to Webflow in the first place.

Editor X is one of the few website builders that addresses the issues of the prosumer market. In my opinion, they should integrate a one-click (Editor X) option directly from the Wix consumer platform because end-users are evolving in their understanding of Web technologies, etc.

You're quite spot on with these observations. I've had to try rebuilding my Webflow website on Wix and the limited customization options is frustrating to say the least. There are lots of free apps but they all seem to have straight jacket fits that I find quite uncomfortable (without having to code). I have also noticed the efforts to improve on their offerings and I dare say the Webflow price point is a major drawback for me. Especially when clients insist on low budgets for premium projects.

Thank you. Appreciate your opinion. "Simpler" products have huge potential for expansion. Weblow it's a great product's but you know what happens in the next few years.

It's interesting how Wix decided to build Editor X. Like you said, it's to make designers more comfortable, so a lot of their interface reminds me of design software like Figma, Sketch, etc.

Editor X is a very worthy contender to Webflow. My short experience with it has been great! I’m glad that we now have more tools that are designer-friendly.

I agree with everything that you brought up in your video. A strong aspect to editor x is that when I wanted to create a forum, it created clear pages that connects to these "Wix apps" without the use of code. Noting that with Webflow, if you don't know how to code, you may have to learn with some API to connect members to other aspects of your site. I do like the fact that Editor X connects the users from a design stand point coming from Figma or Sketch for example but, as you mentioned in your video, Webflow allows an in-depth approach with interactions and with a structure in the box method that helps with Layout in some ways. I like your video. I am excited to see what the future hold for No-Code! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Hey Ran, You can change color of SCGs in Webflow too. It is a bit finicky process, but it works. You have to copy SVG code and paste it in the HTML embed element, but in the SVG code, you need to set the fill to CurentColor. After that, you can change color simply by selecting a new text color. Great vids, continue the good work!

Great overview, as I am looking at both of these products. That being said, there's other facets beyond design that should be considered, such as SEO, transaction fees and hosting fees when trying to find the right product for your business. Thanks for being transparent.

Hi, great video, so coming from the coding from scratch to now using these tools as you say Webflow gives you basically the structure that you set up initially. For some clients I have to work on wix (Original) which is more friendly for people who need a quick website but in terms of systems and structures it becomes quite chaotic and the screen to mobile transition is brutal, so I am really happy to see them put out a similar product to webflow as when I proceed to show a possibility with webflow, clients are quickly intimidated with all the cms stuff they can't just kind of drag and drop so this is kind of an in between, there are good tools, better structure and also a friendly cms system for clients. But what's good is that there is always the option to add code so that can save time on some parts. Thanks for the comparison!
