THE BEST VOCAL BALANCING TIP 🎤

Показать описание
How loud should your vocals be compared to the backing track?🧐

1️⃣ Turn the volume right down so you can just about hear the backing track

2️⃣ Turn the vocal down to 0

3️⃣ Slowly bring the vocal back up until the backing track sounds a little bit further away

The reason you want the vocal slightly louder than the backing track...

Is because when you go to master it,

It will get pushed back into the mix by the limiter and compressor.

This will leave you with a perfectly balanced lead vocal 🎤

Ok, turning down is a well known trick. Explaining why it matters in mastering.... and that's why I like Streaky 🤟😁

This, but make sure you're hearing just the pops of the snare (at quiet volume) then match the vocals to that. You'll know if your vocals are compressed enough if you're not losing phrases at that volume

I think its a thing of taste, sometimes it could be better to bring it more in the music or on top

Your approach is my the best way to teach ME. You give me REAL settings and then I can learn from there. You're the BEST, Streaky. Ty Man 8-)

Damn to me I make it super level some people hear me mid and think the vocals need to be a bit louder but my mastering process makes the vocal pop out from a level mix, if my mix vocal is a bit louder then it appears very loud in mastering

Based on a lot of music I hear nowadays... 10x louder than everything else combined lol

Ummm i always do this, the all the vocals and vocals layers top to -6 dbz
And the whole instrumentak (synths bass lead bla bla) top to -6 also

And then just sidechain in just the mid part, like -5 or -6 dbz in the frecuencies of the voice

My Grammy-winning mentor (Ron Capone) said vocals should be about 4db louder.

I don’t like this approach, I would set the volume right in the mix because you have way less control over the master. I think the right approach is to have your mix sound as good as possible and everything you do while mastering apart from serting a limiter is a bonus but not neccassery

I was struggling with this last week. When I put the master on. The vocal was too loud

That just proves mastering engineers need to be educated in sound quality. They ruin more than they fix because they never learned how to listen

Isnt this going to make the vocal sound even more slammed?

Nice tip Streaky. Shakira - Hips Don't Lie vocal is super loud tho.

When he says “backing track” is he talking about a backing vocal or all the tracks besides the vocal?

Didn't you say to sit to the side of your speakers to get the balance the other day? 🤔
Might have been someone else.
