No matter if you like oasis or nirvana… you could hate them for all I care. They wrote some of the best Melodies ever. And they played there music from there heart. Not what the record company asked for, and for that they get my respect

Exactly, it is very important to take this into account when composing or interpreting a song, you have to find the right tone to give it a dramatic melody between the verse and the chorus 👍

My bro I'm in my composition phase now after practicing my guitar for 4 years 5 hours daily. Doing some covers and some of my own now. This is a 5star Intel. Thanks.

Another trick is to jump in fifth or seventh on the chorus it also works great and a trick you have to listen to the interval between the sections to understand well info Katy Perry - Chained To The Rhythm

This was an encouraging video, your perspective is very helpful. But wow the part about creative confidence is also amazing. If my song sounds exactly like what I had in my soul, I accomplished what I wanted.

Choruses can come in like exploding TNT if you like
They can also come in like a molotov, with a noticeable yet unassuming crack and something being released, and the intensity grows during the following moments to the end of the chorus.

I would love if you made a video on, what songwriting is on a spiritual level. Like sometimes you get so stuck in learning the process you forget what the purpose of a song/of music is. Like a compilation vid where maybe songwriters and musicians have talked about it. I feel like you already have that video and I’ve seen it but forgot. But yeah I feel like I’ve forgotten and it’s hard to grasp the words to explain it to myself again.

Interesting stuff Tony, and I look forward to analysing my favourite songs to see how this plays out!

For anyone else making notes: initially (at 0:50) Tony points to the B (the 3rd scale degree of G Maj, and the second-half of the word 'Gone') as the first note of the chorus for 'Since You've Been Gone'. However, at 1:11 when summarising the rule he points the arrow at the previous note C, which is the 4th degree, not the 3rd - if you are used to this HookTheory colour coding and are thinking 'but wait, green is the 4th degree isn't it?, ' I'd thought I'd save you the time of second-guessing whether you're misunderstanding the point being highlighted :)

Absolutely no hate, but. Would this video be considered “outdated”?
These are all older songs. Your examples are great, they’re just older songs. Does this info also work for modern pop and rock songs?
