It's probably been used a bit more than the Americans would like.

I totally thought he was going to say "The first Major Renovation of the White House occurred in 1814 when the British burned it."

"After hour tours" is my new favourite euphemism .

Hey any chance of the Moscow Metro? Both a massive subway system, and a bunker system.

"Yeah, we've got a sweet bunker too. It's like...so secure. People can't get in or out if we don't want 'em to. We'll be totally safe down there. I've got a bunch of supplies! Do you guys like pickled eggs?"

-Charlie Kelly; Its always sunny in philadelphia

There is a bunker from that era that is now a full museum in Canada outside Ottawa, it is four stories in structure and roughly 20-30 feet of cover. So your guess if 50’ sounds right.

I don’t begrudge the expense. No matter who is our President, his or her protection in all dangerous events should be of primary importance. I would like to thank our Secret Service for all they do to take care of those in charge of the United States.

My Xbox broke last month. Without friends work or games, these videos keep me sane. Thanks👏

It wasn't a new bunker being installed, it was a tennis pavilion, possibly, maybe...

York was never in Ontario. It was in Upper Canada. It became Toronto, Upper Canada in the 1830's. Ontario replaced Upper Canada in 1867.

The Union of Concerned Scientists' assertion that the bunker "must have" been built 1000 ft deep to withstand the largest warhead in the U.S. arsenal seems somewhat flimsy beside the question of how one digs and builds a 1000-ft-deep bunker under a heavily photographed building in a busy city with a shallow water table.

Hint: Go to 38°52'40.95"N, 77° 2'5.25"W in google earth and use the historical imagery tool to see the building/staging construction from start (2004) to finish(2016) that hid the drop shaft to construct the tunnel to the white house. You notice a lot of ventilation equipment for such a small building. Enjoy.

As an American I can confirm that for the past 4 years, this bunker has been used to store the Great Pumpkin.

the fact that me (a random finn) is watching this on youtube makes me think we have very different definitions on the concept of secret

You have missed the red subway line that runs under the north lawn. No doubt the new bunker under the lawn has a connection to the tunnel, and there is probably a self-powered vehicle that can negotiate the rail track to take people to safety 20 to 30 km north of the White House.

Cover another bunker in Beijing Simon.
Their bunker according to some info is even more impressive.
They build a tunnel spanning from Zhongnanhai(China equivalent of White House) to nearby underground complex deep below a nearby hill made out of natural solid granite.
If you can get some of the information about it and made it into a video it would be great.

I remember 4 different movies in the last decade to feature conjecture on the bunker. The photos show a scary side emergency prep as well as maintenance degradation.

A thought, if the bunker is 5 stories, who says the top story isn't 1, 000 feet below ground?
