Plastic bag and straw bans arrived in full force in 2018 across the planet, from North America to Europe to Africa. Internet searches for “plastic waste” skyrocketed last year and consumer protests erupted in countries throughout the world. But why did this plastic revolt seem to flare up so suddenly in 2018? And will these bans and chatter actually have a lasting effect in the coming years? NBC Left Field’s Matt Danzico travels to unofficial plastic scrap yards in China, the streets of Thailand, and then back home to recycling centers in New Jersey to better understand how a tornado of plastic disgust is beginning to spin our chatter.

At 10:19 this intelligent man said it perfectly, whomever produced it should handle it as much as possible. I dont think i have ever seen anything but " made in china" on anything i have ever bought. I think we should go one step further and say " buy it from the country you live in" ....lol now i sound like him

When I lived in Korea, EVERYTHING was recycled (I did live in a condo unit though). You had to pay for special plastic “trash” bags at the grocery store. I filled up less than one per month.

We just need to stop producing plastics altogether.

Just build a long tube to outer space and shoot it there.
