We speak with leading climate scientist Michael Mann about the catastrophic impact of the climate crisis around the world. He says he and other scientists predicted the extreme weather events now wreaking havoc. “We said that if we don’t stop burning fossil fuels and elevating the levels of carbon pollution in the atmosphere and we continue to warm up the planet, we will see unprecedented heat waves and wildfires and floods and droughts and superstorms,” says Mann. His new book is titled “The New Climate War: The Fight to Take Back Our Planet.”

What it must be like to be intellectually enlightened, watching and warning all who will listen, while watching nothing being done. For decades.

DREAM ON, MANN...IF YOU ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT THE NECESSITY OF DRASTICALLY LOWERING THE CONSUMPTION RATE OF AFFLUENT COUNTRIES LIKE THE US, YOU ARE DELUSIONAL IN THINKING THAT CONDITIONS CAN IMPROVE....

Don't tell people it's too late because they wont act. Tell them they still have time so they dont act.

Individuals can’t be blamed, but should help, The real climate change needs to happen from all large companies especially from military and major industries

Hard to find a more clear, basic and direct message. This is the cost we pay for having a poor education system for generations imo.

The only way saving the planet will become a priority is if it becomes financially advantageous to do so. Think about that. 🤯

Amy, you need to occasionally push back on Mann and Mkibben. Lithium wars and child mining for cobalt, not to mention the toxicity of green energy, are factual issues and these two men immediately blame fossil fuel companies for anyone acknowledging these paradoxes . These men, and Naomi Klein, are engineering a world view that needs to be rethought. Technology to save us from technology.

Carl Sagan talked about this stuff over thirty years ago, and politicians would only mock him; well now people are starting to take the man-induced global climate change seriously... Feeling for the victims ✨🙏🏽🌟🌍🌟🙏🏽✨

The current climate models aren't capable of "keeping up" with the cumulative impact. Is anyone attempting a critical update to the models? Thanks.

it's too late ! the changes should've been taken care of decades ago.

To address the problem people could take immediate action to make a difference in the climate threat. How about vacationing close to home, eating meals at home, avoiding food which comes from thousands of miles away. Using public transportation and bicycles. We simply cannot afford to live lavish lives, going to exotic places and eating exotic food and think this has no impact. If we all did our own part, legislation and expensive technology would not be required.

It is important to remember that climate models are opinions, they are not an oracle. Most of what Dr Mann was saying here was speculation.

The attitude implied by Mann's title is more of the same mentality that got us in this mess.
War is not the appropriate metaphor.
Such thinking will lead to the hubris of geoengineering and "clean" energy like biomass and electric vehicles that require devastating mining of rare metals, ensuring resource wars, ecosystem destruction & social upheaval.
Mann needs to start telling the unvarnished truth as he once did in the past. Like the delayed affect of CO2, the methane "bomb", sea level rise, , saltwater intrusion, , that 97% of warming is stored in the world's oceans and ocean acidification's potential to eradicate all sea life... and 70% of humans on earth.

Greenpeace put out a very eye opening video on the political interference from Exxon. Definitely exposes the main problem.
Yes, this video that was showed later!!!

"Models aren't capturing the ways these weather systems become stalled"

I've been aware of this tendency of stalled systems for a long time. I live in Netherlands (yup, we're half a meter higher than Florida -on average) and in the 60s 70s we would have periods of 2 - 3 weeks of similar weather. We'd have periods with raining fronts passing for a couple weeks at max, then we'd get a dry period with some sun. This alternating has changed into having similar weather for months, only broken by couple days of change.

I wondered why it hasn't been registered by our met office.

But frankly, I'm not surprised. When it struck me, over the years we were getting more slightly windy days, like 4 to 5 Beaufort instead of 2-3 Bft, I asked for their records. Turned out they don't keep stats of such "low" winds. These are not dangerous, sailors no longer need wind to propel ships, so none are keeping track of changes in low winds.

Same goes for these alternating patterns, the importance hasn't even registered yet. Still, this deluge in Belgium and Germany was caused by a rain depression which had stalled over Western Europe for more than a week, it looked a bit like a minor hurricane on the satellite map, without the winds, but with those arms with sheaths of rain spiraling over Western Germany like a slow moving Galaxy. One of those arms went north to south over a river system with that same orientation. That's why it kept raining in the same hilly region for days, and all rain came together in just few streams.

Pretty tough to include such patterns in a weather model when you're not keeping track of them . .
