I actually really like Clara being with the Doctor, especially Matt Smith :/ the fact she actually questioned things and was genuinely clever, i thought was really good. Her level of wit and the fact she made even the time lord the doctor question himself was amazing, as it, in my opinion brought both characters forward due to the interactions. It was a really nice dynamic after the doctor, Rory and Amy (who i also liked). If people disagree, just my opinion

Ok how can you hate River? Clara is my fravote character yet I understand that her personality can be anoying for some people. But River? I think that she was the first character who show us that Doctor isn't that clever and she had good and interesing storyline.

The Doctor originally had a granddaughter which means it was near impossible for him to be Asexual.

The Jodie Dr should be number 1, I have never seen any other character come even remotely near causing the divide this Dr. has. Many have given up on Dr. Who entirely, none of the others did that.

Must be a sign of how old I am that I was expecting to see 'Adric' in the list. (Perhaps a follow up with Classic Who characters?) When I was watching the show in the '80's, I was thrilled to have a companion who was more like me (a teenage boy) than the usual female companions. And I was gutted when he was (at least heroically) killed off. Being American, I had no idea at the time that he was so loathed by the audience at large. I was pleased I could identify with a character on the show I loved. I look back now when I watch episodes without the rose tinged lenses and cringe at Adric's attitude and (sorry Matthew Waterhouse) less than stellar acting. Fortunately for me, there is no video evidence of what I was like as a teenager so I can freely criticize my former idol without any repercussion. At all. Nope. Never any backlash from Doctor Who fandom. Right?

People didn't like Clara because unlike the other companions, she actually questioned things and wanted to understand everything that happened. Everyone else got themselves in a lot of trouble because they would never listen to the Doctor while Clara did for the most part. I liked that a companion was on a equal level to the Doctor. I was kind of annoyed of past companions making dumb decisions.

I do like Rose Tyler most of the time. What made me cringe a lot though was when she got jealous when the Doctor was making friends with other girls, especially when Sarah-Jane appeared. I was like "oh for god's sake...." :-|

The vast majority of these aren't marmite. The War Doctor, Thirteenth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Nardole and Mickey Smith are well loved by everyone. My favourite companion is Clara, however I will agree that she fits the description.

I find the "Doctor is asexual" crowd quite annoying. I'm on the ace spectrum myself and know that kissing isn't primarily sexual, it is also romantic, so people in that part of the fandom should calm down with the doctor kissing river, as it depends on the person and where they are on the spectrum
