this is why i hate jury selection. juries now literally made to convict. like wym "would anyone not convict on this evidence? oh you wouldn't? ok you can't be in the jury"

I was on Jury duty a fee months back and the case was a meth possession. We didnt get to ask questions if he was selling it or if it was his first time. He had a public defender that didn’t do shit for him so he had to talk for himself. There were 6 witnesses with no physical evidence ALL 6 were police officers. I raised my hand and said that I couldnt convict a man without having evidence and i also said people swear under oath all the time and lie. You think 6 police buddies wouldn’t lie for one another? Multiple people raised their hands to concur with me. the jury that was selected were the only people that didnt raise their hands (inferring they would convict). Sad the system is broke and offers no help to these types of people. He didn’t need jail he need rehab.

As a law student who has witnessed a bunch of trials, I’ve never heard judges be a significant part of “voir dire” but I love Mr. Tyson and the point he’s making. 😂

Last time I had jury duty they rejected everyone who had a problem with with trusting word of mouth evidence from a cop

Before I dropped out, I used to do study law. One thing that stands out a lot to me was a mock trial with us as the jury. 80% of my classmates were ready to convict w no definitive proof and lots of examples of reasonable doubt

as someone who installs those door closers for a living, that tool they are showing is absolutely pointless. just don't install it upside down and use the drill

I have served on 4 juries in criminal trials. Lawyers do not like critical thinkers on a jury.

You can't out-talk this man. His brain and communication skills are just on another level.

I watched a woman get selected for the jury and was not removed after she said "Well if he's not guilty, why would he have been arrested? They don't arrest innocent people!"

The judge was fine with that.

Lie and say you will convict and be the voice of reason. Then say not guilty. I have always wanted to do jury duty

As a kid I always wondered why you wouldn't want to go to jury duty and why people always try to get out of it, being older I understand, it could take weeks until you make a decision and they don't pay you BASICALLY anything

I remembering being on jury duty, and one of the other juror blurting out in the middle of the prosecution's cross examination of the defendant

"Thats not what he said."

Judge, defense attorney and Bailiff all turn to look at us, the jury, and the judge just says "We know. Please sit down and remain silent unless called upon."

Case was...slam dunk honestly. Prosecution had zero evidence outside of a very low quality still image from an ATM over 200ft away.

Alledged victim was the defendants ex, and the defense had security footage of the defendant at his place of work, 20 minutes before the assault took place, over 2 hours away.

I remember in class we were doing about memeory, we watched a 5 minute video and then asnwered some questions, tehn after 10 we answered the same ones and the same after 20

The fall off of correct information was rapid and all it shows is that in terms of witnesses, they are unreliable

Great point and he’s absolutely right. I had a lady absolutely convinced that I had shoplifted and, well, I hadn’t. And I wasn’t in possession of the stolen items. Convict me based on that one person who ID’d the wrong guy? I hope not!

I know what he is talking about, i was in a similar situation and i just kept my mouth shut. If you want to be on a jury and be fair and hear both parties just give neutral answers to all questions. The smallest thing you say that you don’t think matters (and probably doesn’t) could make either attorney nervous about your opinions and beliefs!!!

They coach juries and also they’re not there for accuracy they only want contributions into their system.

I told a judge that I don't think I'd have the ability to judge a person I don't know. He asked why. I replied, "I was arrested on several occasions for simply not speaking to police. And even though nothing came of the arrests, I was still treated like a criminal for exercising my right to remain silent." The judge said, "That's kinda disrespectful." I then said, "Yeah.... that's the same reason the cops gave me for not speaking, and now you're doing it, Your Honor." The judge wasn't happy.

Alan Davies on QI told a story about a bike robbery he witnessed.
He watched the assault and robbery, an inside of 5 minutes the police were on the scene... the police asked him some questions, and then, they asked him what colour the bike was... "Oh, the bike was red"... the victim replied, "My bike was gold, and doesn't have any red on it at all"

The phrasing "more than one witness" is ambiguous. It can be interpreted as "more witnesses than one", which is not what Neil said, but it can also be interpreted as "more evidence than 1 witness", which IS what Neil said.

I would never vote to convict someone on witness testimony alone. I've seen too many studies on how untrustworthy witnesses can be.
