People have different approaches to doing this. Personally I’ve found the easiest way to do this is have someone else do it for me. But this is a pretty good idea

There is a lot of trash on YouTube, and then sometimes you stumble onto pure gold!

Wonderful technique.

I work for a cabinet and countertop place. All the installers us up to date equipment expect this 70 year old. This dude still draws lines in the walls and has a bunch of cut 2x4s pieced together to prob up the walls. I’ve never installed but he always does his walls first and then bases. He’s honestly the best installer we have. Everything is always flush and leveled, and he’s always trying to teach when I talk to him.

Honestly, i did some commercial cabinet installs and hated doing uppers. (Woodwork of any sort really isnt for me though, I ended up being an electrician) this kind of tool might have kept me doing that a little while longer 😂

My husband and I installed all the kitchen cabinets ourselves. It was one of the easiest DIY projects we have done! Get the right tools, proper screws, and a couple of levels, and learn to use them. To install the uppers, we put a temporary cleat on the wall to support the weight of the cabinet while we put the screws in to attach it to the wall. Using this method it was way easier to put the uppers in first, so we didn't have to reach over the lowers .

I find this wood working book Lucas four two Bond great for me. A few of the topics talked about in the book include wood working tactics, justification on the progress cycles of trees, and various lumber features that craftsmen favor. Simply put I had to get a 2nd copy for my father.

My dad did this all his life. Screw the clamps on a small step ladder. Making it portable and so you can do it to install the top cabinets without the need to install the cabinet down there first and have a ladder to screw the upper cabinets

Measure twice, drawer line two nails to hold it up on the studs of course

I set entire kitchen's by myself and I found the best is to do the uppers first so the lowers aren't in your way, i also use a 3rd hand (type of jack for things like cabinets) to hold the cabinet up while I screw it

French cleat is my go to but I've had to use similar setups before, i dont hate it.

I did mine with French cleat, was very simple and easy

These are great tools for beginners, but in the time it took to get them set up and raised, I'd be finishing hanging the second cabinet. Time is money in the trades. If you aren't strong enough to hold a cabinet up one handed, simply nail / screw a cleat across the whole wall.

This is the main reason I always use a French cleat to hang cabinets. Always secure, always level, easily removed for repairs or renos.

So, as someone who's been doing cabinet installs for 30 years, I don't hate this. But I found it easier to just cut a couple of 2x4 kickers, tape some cardboard over the ends to protect the paint. Simple, free and we always have scraps of material on the jobsite. We had cabinet hoists but they were bulky and in the way. They've been collecting dust for years in our maintenance shop. Each to their own. As long as the job gets done and you're not wasting a bunch of unnecessary time.
Peace!

Should you do your upper cabinets first?

The subjects covered in this woodworking book Lucas four two Bond varies from wood types to tool types and uses. It also tells you regarding the various kinds of wood and how simple or challenging they`re to work with. This book has been very helpful and is a great one for somebody just getting into wood working.

Just screw straight long timber on the wall at your laser line .
Sit the unit onto it and screw it to the wall

When finished, put the timber in the van for your next project )

Or screw a ledger to the wall for all cabs to rest on, and able to adjust as needed.
