I used to work at golf range & drove the golf ball retriever vehicle. I found driver heads w/broken shafts all the time. I have a nice collection of premium drivers (Calloway, Taylor Made, Cleveland, Ping) at home.

Happened to me as a kid. Funny feeling…and head went further down the fairway than the ball.

I've done that once and also had a great shot. Maybe the club face stays on the ball longer?

When he looked in the hole, the driver's head was in it.

I was at my local driving range and getting a bucket of balls from the automated ball machine. As I was bending over to grab the basket, there was a loud bang in back of me. Turns out the guy in the stall in front of the ball machine broke the head of his driver while hitting a ball and the clubhead flew backwards hitting the side of the ball machine right behind me. No harm, no foul but it did rattle me for a couple of minutes.

Had this happen to me on a course at Disney and despite looking all over for it, never located the head. Ball was 280 in the middle of the fairway. Weird.
