Find out how to change your settings for roaming, the costs of using services such as Data Passport, calling and texting abroad, plus how to call voicemail and contact us when you're abroad.

Settings for roaming abroad.
Before you can use your device when you're abroad, you'll need to make sure you've got international roaming activated on your account. International roaming is automatically enabled on our plans, but if for any reason you need to activate this you can do this on My3 or by contacting us (before leaving the UK), so we can activate it for you. You can check if you’re set up for roaming on the Three app by going to ‘Plan’ and then clicking ‘Using your phone abroad’.
If you’ve got a new Pay As You Go SIM, make sure you activate the SIM before you go away, as you can’t activate it while abroad.

Costs to use services abroad.
To check out how much it’s going to cost to use your device abroad please enter the destination on Three support pages. You’ll be able to see if the country is a Feel At Home country, but make sure and also check if you’ll be eligible for the Data Passport.
Our control your spend blocks don't work when you're abroad, so be aware that calls, texts and data used abroad will be charged outside of your normal monthly cost or allowances. The only exception is if you’re in a Feel At Home destination with a compatible plan.

Calling and texting abroad.
To make a call or send a text to a landline or mobile when you're abroad you'll need to replace the first digit which is normally a 0 with a + symbol, followed by the country calling code. Then enter the rest of the number as normal.
For example, if you're calling or texting the UK the country code is +44, so you should type this followed by the rest of the number, leaving off the first zero. So calling 01567 995000 abroad would be +441567 995000.

Using the internet abroad.
Smartphones are permanently connected to the internet so you could use data without realising it. If you want to manage these settings by either switching them on or off, you’ll need to change your phone’s settings. If you switch data roaming off you won’t need to worry about any applications being left running in the background that could be using data without you knowing.
You can see exactly what charges, if any, you’ll have for using data abroad by checking your destination’s support page.
We don’t think you should spend more than you want to when using the internet on your phone or Mobile Broadband device when you’re abroad. So to help manage your costs, we’ve set a worldwide data roaming limit of £42.50 per month.

Voicemail abroad.
If you want to use voicemail when you're abroad, you'll need to make sure that you've set up a voicemail security PIN before you go away.
If you find you can’t remember your voicemail PIN, you may need to reset it. To do this, give us a call on +44 7782 333 333 (standard roaming charges apply).
On our network all calls are automatically diverted to your voicemail for free when you're abroad.
Please be aware that standard roaming charges will apply for listening to your voicemail messages when you're abroad, unless you’re in a Feel At Home destination with a plan that includes Feel At Home, and are using available minutes from your plan or Add-on allowance. Find out more about Feel At Home.
Note: If you’re in the EU/EEA, listening to your voicemail messages will be included in your allowance for all our plans.
