If I had to explain the Mu chord (Steely Dan named it this, prolly cuz it's faster than saying "add two"):

It's an add2 chord, which is different from sus2 because with a sus2 you're substituting the third for a second, but with an add2 you're playing root, second, third all close together.
Add9 is similar (9th is just a second up an octave) but add2 sounds different because the notes are so close together, creating a really beautiful dissonance.
