I recently had a problem with my Xbox 360 and it's DVD drive. Unfortunately, the warranty expired and I decided to see if I could fix it myself. The first step is obviously to take apart the Xbox 360.

In this video I show you how I repaired my DVD drive Disc Read Error.

Warning!!!

If you follow this guide, you do so at your own risk. Make sure you unplug all connections to your Xbox 360 prior to working on your Xbox 360.

Zollotech and/or Aaron Zollo will not be held responsible if you damage your Xbox 360, void your warranty, or harm yourself while following this guide.

Thanks for watching!

THANK YOU!! I watched other videos and took my xbox apart, opened the disc drive and still didn’t work. Now I know it was just my lazer being jammed to the left! Saved me getting a new xbox

Thanks for the video, you have saved me a major headache, and expense. The laser was indeed, stuck out on the left. Pressed it back to the right and all now working.

The thing that fixed my Xbox was checking my Data Sata connection, it wasn't correctly connected, so it caused the problem.

What did you use to clean the rails, just your finger?

My house is super dusty, I wouldn't be surprised if this is what's wrong with mine. Did anybody else hear a buzzing noise in their unit leading up to the fail? I at first thought it was the fan, but it would stop as soon as the drive opened.

The drive motor has a rubber grip ring atop the wheel. I tore my machine down and fired it up to see what was what and found that wasnt really dirty but had built up a little hardness..less grippy.. so I alcoholed it, and tried again.
I did not put everything back together and just fired it up. It read this time but there is a little gadget that compliments the drive motor that didnt seem to be settling down on the drive quite right. So I assembled it just enough to try again, it worked.. I did have to thump it on top like people were saying to do,
lots of electronics experience told me dont do it, but after I did, I realized why folks were doing it. Its that little dangly thing not making a great contact with the cd that sits on that motor with the rubber grip ring. If it messes with me any more, I may try bending in the lid where that thing dangles down over drive motor. Its really not much of a drive, and I noticed the laser is glued into place so it stays where they put it during assembly. Folks.. Dont mess with the reader or trolley. My box is 15 years old, and I expected a dirt farm inside.. but it looks like I just bought it.. Very surprised. My work computers get cleaned out 4 times a year.. they are extremely filthy inside.. Good luck

I just want to know what scratches the disc if the Xbox is tilted and does it do any damage to the Xbox as well?

Or just do what I did which is shut off the Xbox 360 with the disk inside. It reset itself for me

Personally I would just give it to Microsoft to repair it for me if it is under warranty, or buy a new Xbox 360 E-Series.
