First yet certainly not the last one here to say thank you Professor Carl Frey and Bernard Marr. Whenever I receive my "Bernard Marr" notifications via email, I always spend the ensuing 20 to 60 minutes perusing the entire Bernard Marr newsletter. Oxford University, Cambridge University, AI discussions, cognitive skills talk, relevant 4.0 advice, crowdfunding platforms, vertical integration strategies in the 2020's decade, blockchain shortcomings, Silicon Valley replications in Sub Sahara Africa and so xie xie, toda raba, multumesc mult, arrigato, grazie mille, daalu, shokhran, danke schoen, spasibo Bernard!

Regarding the point about Google translator not replacing certified translators. What his analysis isn't taking into account is that translation technologies will allow certified translators to perform 10 to 100 times the amount of work that they currently do. AI will do the 'heavy lifting' of the actual translation work while the humans merely proofread and approve the work done by the computers. This means the economy will only need a small fraction of the number of human translators to do the same amount of work. It will be the same for any other certfied professional working with information, including lawyers and medical doctors. Fewer professionals will be needed to do the same amount of work because the best practitioners will be assisted by AI technologies. Quality goes up, costs go down, and fewer humans are required.

Now imagine this process impacting every sector of the economy simultaneously at an increasingly exponential rate. The idea that enough new jobs are going to be created to replace the destroyed jobs is laughable. The only new jobs that will be created will be very high skilled, require high intelligence or talent, or high levels of human creativity. Through no fault of their own, half or more of the human poplulation won't make the cut. They just are not talented or smart enough to offer value to the economy with their labor. We must start having serious policy discussions about how society is going reorganize itself around this new economic reality.

Bernhard Marr, as anybody trying to catch a glance into the future, fell short to really give examples. Clearly having more plumbers and cleaners is not the way to go. We'll probably have to wait for AI to evaluate each individuals capability and best utility.😀
