Don't give your passwords to third parties? Instead, give them to a cloud provider. Got it. :p don't forget full disk encryption!

Idea for future video: Hardening your docker hosts. Your previous video on securing linux was great, but locking down docker hosts adds as bunch of iptables complications and other caveats. If people are going to host their own password manager in the cloud, it would probably be good for them to add a firewall, setup SSH so it can't be logged into with a password etc.

Hi NetworkChuck,

I just wanted to drop a quick comment to let you know how much I love your videos. As someone who's relatively new I find your content incredibly helpful and easy to follow. Your ability to explain complex topics in a clear and engaging way is truly impressive.

Your passion for the subject matter really shines through in your videos, and it's clear that you genuinely enjoy teaching others about IT. I appreciate how you break down concepts into bite-sized pieces that are easy to understand, and your real-world examples really help to solidify the concepts in my mind.

I've learned so much from your channel already, and I look forward to watching your future videos. Keep up the great work!

No Bitwarden? They provide self-hosted instances and is open-source.

Before I even watch this, YOU ARE AWESOME! I've been thinking about the idea of having a local password manager for the past few days and this video could not have more perfect timing haha

Unfortunately, I was a victim of a cyber attack thanks to these password breaches. Thanks for the timely video 😢.

Soo, you want to self host your password manager, in order to not give your passwords to yet another company, but you want to use "the cloud" for it. Yet, "the cloud" is just someone elses computer, that you pay money for and hope they abide by their privacy policies. Something is not adding up.

I really love the Vaultwarden project for the self-hosted side! Thanks for the video as always!

I also think it's very important to harden your server before using this

Don't give your password to hackers by putting them in a password manager, just self-host a password manager in the cloud instead ❓❓❓

This is just what I was looking for as the world of trying to recall so many passwords is insurmountable these days. Home hosting I feel is safest, but one item missing from the video and tbh all YT examples I have found and paramount if home hosting. How do you backup and protect against loss of the database, plus restore to new host ensuring all your family passwords are safe? Your videos Chuck are some of the best but I feel extending this to a backup/recover section for something as important as Password Manager would be a great addition :)

Btw. Linode is quite expensive for what it is.
Also some instructions how to secure your root server against hackers would be good. You're running your password manager in this machine that is available to the public after all.

Hi Chuck! I am only writing just to say, bravo, sir. I am an educator and small YouTuber that makes and creates anything. But you make me want to switch fields. Your delivery and conciseness of your instruction is brilliant. Thank you for creating such content, keep up the good work, you are a friend I wish I had. All the best, and continued success.🎉

I don't and self hosted is most secure when properly secured to access.

Yeah i have to agree with what a lot of people already mentioned. It's equally dangerous hosting your passwords on a cloud vps server, especially if you don't know what you are doing. And the procedure setting this up is complicated too say atleast. I'm sure people will get it running with your video but what happens if they have to troubleshoot this in the future and they lost access to all their passwords ? Have you thought about that?
