This song captures the spirit of Zorro. You can see him in his trademark pose on Tornado in front of the setting sun. I will say that I grew up with the Disney black and white show. And this was watching it in reruns in the 80s. Guy Williams was my Zorro. But when I saw this film and Anthony Hopkins came out in that opening scene... I don't know if it was the costume... or that and the music together, but it was as if I was watching MY Zorro again. The little boy inside of me was watching my hero live again. Anthony Hopkins became Don Diego De La Vega. I felt happy when I saw Anthony Hopkins strike that pose. Zorro was back. And then as the movie went on, I understood the symbolism behind that shot. The sun was setting on Don Diego's time as Zorro. Time had indeed passed since the last time I had seen Zorro. It was his last ride, and it was now time to pass the mantle on to someone worthy. And when Antonio Bandaras dawned the costume, it was a new Zorro... but he embodied the same spirit. He became Zorro for me. I wept when Don Diego died at the end. It was as if my hero had passed. But, of course I was wrong. Because while Diego may have passed in the end... Zorro lived on. Like Alejandro says at the end of the film, there must always, always be a Zorro. Zorro never dies.

The Best Zorro movie ever made. What a classic. This movie was one of my 1990s childhood favourites and I was born in the 1990s. This movie brings back magical memories and some scenes were quite creepy as well. I remember being haunted by that whole jail scene and when he rose from the coffin.

The sequel was so awful.

Anyone who has never seen this movie is SOOO missing out on a truly amazing cinematic experience. Everything about it was wonderful. It had it all...action, drama, suspense, romance and even just the right amount of humor. The casting was perfect. The chemistry between Banderas and Jones was unbelievable! I would've never thought to cast Anthony Hopkins in that role but he stole the show...big surprise. Basically I can't oversell this movie. I LOVED it.

Red Dead Redemption plus Assassins Creed, they would make a perfect Zorro game!
With a theme like this...
Thank you James Horner for your music and legacy!

This makes me want to ride my black Andalusian stallion into the late afternoon sun, beyond the distant hills as my love watches me with a sly smile across her face.

This song hits a lot harder than it used to. Earlier this year I got a dog that I eventually named Zorro because he was quick in wits and stealthy, but when I was away on vacation, he was nearly pulverized by a speeding driver, who just drove off with hardly an acknowledgement of what he had done. Zorro died in my niece's arms on the way to the hospital. He was a day shy of being 9 months old, and I never got to say goodbye. Rewatching this film has shown me that life can throw us these tragic curveballs, and that we can lose loved ones so quickly, but I suppose those we love never truly leave us, especially when we keep their memories alive.

Just watched this film again on netflix and now I want to buy it on bluray. I have forgotten what a masterpiece this one is. Hopkins as Zorro is classic! What a performance and Banderas is terrific as well as is Zeta Jones. This film creates too many goosebump moments to name.
Before Superman, before batman, before anything....there was just Zorro. I've been a fan of the show as a kid, too...funny how I do not like super hero films but have always appreciated the likes of Zorro and TMNT.

I couldn't agree more to all your comments. This was one of the best surprise movies in my life. Like the movie Flashdance, I was completely blown away and didn't want it to end. Perfect casting and of course at the time I thought Catherine Zeta was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. The main theme song is one of my favorites and I listen to it over and over at times. So beautiful and moves me in a way that I want to be more courageous and more fulfilled.
