On August 23, 2015 the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, visited Nigeria.

During the three-day official visit, Mr Ban laid wreath to commemorate the 4th Anniversary of the attack on the United Nation's House, in Abuja by the Boko Haram sect.

He also held talks with the nation's leaders which focused on "Pathways to a new Nigeria-Role of Sub-National Governments".

Mr Ban held dialogue and lunch with Nigerian Business actors under the theme "The role of Nigerian Business and Economy in Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and addressing Climate Change".

The UN Secretary-General further held talks aimed at deepening Nigeria's democracy with government officials on the theme "Democracy, Sustainable Development, and Countering Violent Extremism".

The high-point of Mr Ki-moon's visit was a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, where he stressed the need for the government to ensure the rescue of the over 200 Chibok girls abducted on April 14 by members of the Boko Haram sect.

He also pledged the United Nations support for the fight against terrorism in Nigeria.
