I would love a women’s health and hormone series! I’m seeing so many fitness and wellness women saying women “need” animal protein for the “bioavailable” protein and vitamins and minerals for “hormone balancing” like preformed retinol, and they say studies that meat is bad are done on meat that’s not “grass fed good quality meat and that makes a difference vs the nutrition in factory farmed meat” (lol) and are done on mostly men so they’re “bunk”. I don’t doubt the sexism in academic spaces, intentional or not, but I don’t think the flesh of another animal is good for anyone 🧐

A lot of these studies mention that the vegetable meals were paired with vinegar/vinaigrette while the others don't specify what the meals contained. Given that studies have shown acetic acid as lowering the insulin spikes caused by carbs, I'm hesitant to conclude that it was the order of the meals that had an effect vs. the presence of vinegar. I'd like to see the same studies done without acetic acid in the mix.

I have OCPD and get really weird about my food order... I always eat veggies, then protein (legumes, tofu etc), then grains/starch. I feel validated!

How the heck would I eat the protein of my lentils first, then the little fat and in the end the carbs as dessert 🤣

I appreciate the review of this research. Would have been nice if they had included others who eat plant-based but since the recommendation to eat that way has only recently been added, I suppose they can’t be faulted too much.

You may want to check out Plant Chomper’s interview with Cyrus and Robbie of Mastering Diabetes. Cyrus mentions a study or two that talk about the 170 value as not indicative of pre-diabetes. Great interview.

I'm a type 1 diabetic and I notice that eating my veggies first and then whole food sources of carbs gives my blood sugar a more gentle response as shown in the graphs. I'm pretty sure it is because I take my insulin at the beginning of a meal and my insulin takes about 2 hours to peak in my body. By loading up on carb light veggies first, it just gives my insulin more time to catch up.

It always gets to me how fibre is separated out into a separate macro, when it’s actually a carbohydrate. Also, vegetables don’t have much fibre! Fibre is best found from grain and legumes (which are also packed full of starch).

This morning I had my first, "I think I am going crazy over food (disorder???)". Decade long vegan with health issues and very interested in doing what's best for my body. But there is so much conflicting info from doctors, professionals, and the web, I don't know what the hell to do. Now I should eat my food in a specific order!? 🤪

Great Video! Would Love a video on Antioxidants, I keep seeing references to studies about there being a potentially unsafe upper limit for antioxidant consumption. That too many may cause adverse health effects. Would love clarity on if this is actually an issue or not!
Thanks Mic! You're Awesome!

I'm curious, too. I'd love to see you do a personal test for a few days or so and report your results. Personally, I've l've almost always eaten my veggies first.

Based on a video by Dr. Greger, I've been adding some lentils & berries to my morning steel-cut oats, as lentils and beans seem to lower blood sugar spikes with meals eaten even 12 hours later. Maybe I'll try a small snack of lentils and veggies before the oatmeal.

You should do Yellowstone in the winter. It’s amazing!!!! Cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, snowmobile (yuk!) and the very cool snow coach tours.
